One interesting thing I've seen is that when I move a photo from Photos on my mac to the desktop it cuts the size in half. I found that hard to believe until I tried it...then I saw the same thing. I dragged a photo out of Photos to a test folder and noted the size difference. Here is what I discovered: The file size is not altered if you choose File/Export/Export Unmodified Original. The file size is significantly smaller if you drag the photo out of Photos or if you choose File/Export/Export Photo and click OK accepting default settings (JPEG). The file size is identical down to the byte using those two methods. Therefore, it appears that when you drag a photo out of Photos, Photos will do a default JPEG export, not a straight drag of the actual original image. If you want the original, you better Export Unmodified Original. This is totally weird to me but that is what the test showed. More on reddit.com
