Hi guys, first post here in this sub, so I don't know if WWD-3D is something we're not supposed to talk about. I do understand, however, why WWD the miniseries is much more popular than the movie.
It's pretty simple - that dialogue between the dinosaur characters was totally unnecessary and added in at the last minute and just plain annoying. And why did they need to have a paleontologist with his niece and nephew bookending the dino footage? And why did they need to cast Karl Urban for that? I've seen plenty of reviews that said it should have been narrated by someone like Morgan Freeman or maybe even no dialogue at all. There have been some edits too without any dialogue that work very well.
But I have a different idea for how it could have been improved. First: Keep John Leguizamo as the narrator/bird. But instead of any dialogue between those Pachyrhinosauruses whose mouths aren't even moving, have the dialogue between the bird and the teen nephew. After all, the whole movie is basically a vision that the bird is showing the teen, right? And at the beginning he's just "Uhhhh, I'm a teen and everything is lame and I just wanna text my friends" but by the end he's interested in the world around him and the past. So instead of leaving all that at the beginning and returning at the very end, show that development through some voice acting. Like every time the nephew butts in, he's more interested in what he sees and more invested in the dinosaurs that they're following.
I feel like that would have been a better movie and still could have had some of that dialogue that the producers were looking for.
