How do you feel about tiled walls in a bathroom?
If you're doing it for yourself, do whatever you want, but if you're doing it for resale please know that buyers see tile as an expensive thing to change. Trying to pick a neutral to please the masses also comes with its problems. Some people see the photo above as "luxury", I see it as beige flip/hotel generic style with no room for me to make improvements or changes without gutting the whole bathroom. I hate that look (not all-tile, just that brown travertine stuff) and would want to tear it all out. As a buyer I would think, "I'm paying extra for this "nice" bathroom that I hate, wish they hadn't touched it." However if it was all tile and the tile was my style, I'd love it. So it's a crapshoot. Find some spray adhesive that will shoot out through a nozzle straw. I believe viper or loctite may have one.

Generally, they are all the same. Historically, people used to use smaller tiles in the bathroom, and larger tiles in the kitchen, but modern design has mostly done away with that. You should however consider the finish of the tile for your application. You may not want to have a perfectly smooth and slick tile for use on a bathroom floor (too slippery under wet feet), and you probably should avoid using a rough surface tile on your counter tops (too difficult to keep clean) More on reddit.com

When I say "bathroom wall," I don't simply mean the wall in and around the shower. I mean tiling every inch of every wall of the bathroom.
Here are some examples of what I'm talking about.
What are the reasons that one might tile the walls of a bathroom? I've never managed to make my bathroom walls wet in my entire life, so I see no benefit there.
Is it done purely for appearance then? If so, is there a general consensus that tiled walls are a luxury? Or, is it more of a personal preference thing? I assume that it may not inherently be considered an upgrade, as there are probably some tiled walls that look worse than regular ol' drywall.
The downside of tiled walls is the significant price of additional labor and materials. Also, I feel that tiled walls age rapidly. Unless you get the most boring, square, white tile imaginable, your tiles' style/shape/size/color can make your bathroom look dated in a few years. Untextured drywall (while totally lacking any character) is of course ageless.
Are there other downsides or concerns to think about?
Are there instances when one really should consider tiling a particular bathroom's walls?

That example you posted is a luxury/appearance thing. That travertine is expensive stuff. A bathroom tiled entirely in cheap white square tile would look like a school locker room. I think you could do an entire bathroom in subway tile with a few splashes of pattern and get a look that wouldn't age rapidly like this. Though when I was thinking of doing mine like this, a friend who flips houses said it would look like a prison shower... In East Asia most home bathrooms are "wet rooms" and I always kind of liked the idea. Not enough to spend the money rejiggering the arrangement of the traditional western bathrooms in my house, though.
