I would change this to say don't buy them form a 3rd party seller on Walmart.com. I would find it very hard to believe that Walmart is selling counterfeit AirPods in stores. More on reddit.com

They have a really good deal right now for $155 for the AIRPOD PRO 2 units. However, if you buy them, they will NOT be recognized by Apple and you will not only NOT receive any support from Apple, you will be unable to add AppleCare+ to these AirPods because Walmart does not provide proof of purchase to Apple and there is apparently no way to get a receipt with the serial numbers, which Apple requires. As far as Apple is concerned, these are essentially no different from counterfeit AirPods (I don't think they are counterfeit, but as far as Apple is concerned, they might as well be).

I purchased a pair on 11/30 from Walmart.com. I just called Apple. They asked me to go to checkcoverage.apple.com and when I did all I had to do was enter the device serial number and update the purchase date. That took me to the screen where I purchased the apple care. It was a very easy process.
