Do NOT buy paint from Walmart. Find an actual paint store and buy your paint there. This is important and you will regret not listening to me. Don't need to prime before skim coat. 2. No, just make sure you backroll thoroughly. 3. Zinsser is much better than Guardz, but unless you have stains from water or tobacco, etc, you can use a cheaper primer. 4. Spot prime is fine. 5. Caulk after primer, the caulk can't stick to the drywall/mud. Then paint in the order you listed. 6. Yes, but just 1 or 2mm. 7. Only caulk trim. 8. Manual is best, and it's not hard to learn. You'll spend three times as long if you use tape. Cutting in tips: pour some paint into the tray, so you have enough paint in the can that you can stand the brush up in it, to keep the bristles wet. Dip brush in paint, lightly tap it on the inside wall of the can, don't wipe the rim of the can unless you need to make a fine point on the brush for a tight corner. When cutting in, start an inch out from the corner, and bring the brush in, so as not to glob paint in the corner. Keep the angle of the brush consistent for each stroke. Come out from the corners far enough that you can comfortably roll the walls after. Roll the wall while the cutting in is wet, then move on to the next section. Source: am painter More on reddit.com

Or I might just suck it up and take the longer driver for higher quality options.

We've removed all the wallpaper. There was tons. Also we tried various techniques for the popcorn ceiling from spraying hot water and scraping, using vinegar, trying citristriop, and using a pole sander. Since the drywall was torn a bit from trying to remove the popcorn, I roughly sanded and rolled Guardz over the while ceiling. I ended up skim coating over it twice with usg plus blue bucket and it looks pretty good. Just really tiring! I have some questions though I'm hoping to get some advice on.
Should I use Guardz over every popcorn ceiling before I skim coat?
Do I need to clean the ceiling after skim costing before priming?
Should I use a primer like zinsser 123 on the ceiling before painting?
For walls with large drywall repairs like removing intercoms or big recessed rectangle lights I removed, do I just spot prime or prime the whole wall?
Should I always caulk first then, paint from ceiling, crown molding wall, windows/door molding, baseboard, walls?
Should I purposefully over paint ceiling and trim on the walls before cutting?
Do I need to caulk wall/ceiling area before painting?
Should I just manually cut my lines with good 2-3" angled brush, or try tape or edger? I've never painted before.

I’ll second the other poster as well, do not buy Walmart paint. Go to a real paint store and buy a good quality interior paint. Do not buy the cheapest one. Paint is very much a you get what you pay for product. And with as much work as you’re going to be doing, buy good quality paint and only do it once.
