If the card has a magnetic strip it could be demagnetized, which just means that the cashier will have to manually type in the number. It was a frequent problem back in the day so they got rid of the strips, but there's been fraud issues so they recently brought them back. I don't know why they said that it's empty, unless they just assumed it was because it wouldn't read. More on reddit.com

Not too much help we can offer here. We’re off the clock employees, not support, so not much we can offer. It seems to be multiple numbers to call. 1-800-350-6690 is one. It’s about finding someone who knows what’s up. If the person is clueless, ask to speak to someone who knows, be polite, but nothing wrong with being insistent. If they offer you a follow up, that can be a good thing, you may get someone who calls back who knows what they’re talking about. Call during the day too, like bank hours, increase the chances that someone who knows is working. The store probably can’t help, lots of issues with fraud and they’re pretty wary. Maybe the store manager can figure out something, especially with proper documentation and proof of purchase. More on reddit.com

I gifted a gift card for in a Christmas Hamper, and the recipient is having issues getting it to work.
She said she tried at multiple Walmarts. Talked to customer service, they told her its empty, card number doesn't even match the reciept I included.
I told her to send me the gift card and receipt so I could call customer service.
I checked the card online, the balance is there. Nothing has been spent. Number on receipt matches card. (Maybe the CS misread it?)
I told her to try to use it to Walmart online but I dont know if she's tech savvy for that?
Not sure what's the best way to help her now?
Tell her to use self check out?
The card SHOULD be fine ??? I think? Or maybe it needs to replaced?
Other then driving to her home getting the old one back and giving her a new one, im not sure what else can be done?

Had this issue at my Walmart. Our store reissued the gift card (under promo card) and then dealt with head office to get the original card credited to us. Less hassle for the customer... This was because the register and customer service showed the card had 0 balance but when looked up online it had never been used (other than the original load).
