r/remotework on Reddit: Walmart Corporate Eliminating Remote Positions
May 13, 2024 -

Today, Walmart Corporate announced internally that they are eliminating 100% of all work from home agreements. They are giving people until July to move to Northwest Arkansas or to accept a severance package. I know a few people who have been with the company for 10-20 years who are top performers with no disciplinary issues. Absolutely bullshit. Corporate greed at its finest.

May 8, 2024 -

If you haven't, I would consider looking into it. Be aware that working from home is not for everyone, and it does take a different type of discipline, but it is an excellent option if you can get it. These jobs used to take place in call centers but went remote during COVID. After all the pandemic stuff calmed down, the company decided to keep the jobs remote. There are SO MANY options to choose when it comes to different departments, and I know plenty of people that went from in store positions to remote and are thriving. I will try my best to answer any questions anybody might have about the positions.

EDIT: Just to add, I know navigating the career section is a huge pain. I believe I found it on Indeed when I applied.

UPDATE 5/10/25: I got a lot of replies out of nowhere yesterday!! We've only been hiring when gearing up for the holidays. Search for Customer Resolution Specialist positions, Tier II and III. Those would be the positions that would be most likely available at that time. I stumbled upon it while searching for remote positions during Covid, and Walmart had shut down all their call centers. They decided after the pandemic had ended to keep everyone at home, which is why it exists now. I wish so much that I could give you a clearer direction on how to apply. For those looking, I wish you the best of luck!! I know of two folks on my team who came directly from stores. The positions are not available in all states. I know Texas, NC, Arizona, and Arkansas are on the list. I will get specifics and update this again next week.

UPDATE 5/27/25: Here ya go! https://careers.walmart.com/corporate/customer-service-and-call-center

There is most likely nothing available due to the time of year, but check back in the fall!!

UPDATE 11/05/25: It doesn't look like there will be a reliable way to find a remote position anymore, as Walmart has since begun moving a few select teams back to a hybrid or in-office position. There may still be a bit available during the holidays for seasonal work, but I would not bet on it.

Fully Remote and Hybrid Jobs at Walmart Hiring in February 2024
February 24, 2024 - As we’ve already said, Walmart isn’t “all in” on remote working as part of its culture. It’s still open to it, and generally seems to encourage some flexible/hybrid working in the majority of its roles, but you’re not going to be able to come and go from the office as you please. Instead, expect a relatively regimented in-office schedule coupled with a couple of home working days.

I'm currently mid-management in a Walmart store. I would like to transition to Walmart technology when my degree is complete. From anyone who has worked the Walmart Software Engineer II job (entry level for Walmart).

How is it?

What does a day look like for you?

How is management?

How are work/life balance?

When you have to do a git checkout, you usually have to wait in the self-checkout line, and even you do everything correctly, you will still get an unexpected item in the bagging error.

Background I currently work for Walmart as a Software Engineer II. I'm based in Bentonville Arkansas. The Home Office is here in town, but that's for the business folks. I work in the David Glass Technology Center (DGTC), which is where they house all the ISD folks. Or rather, I worked there before Covid. All the programmers are 100% work-from-home presently. I don't know when we'll return to the office, or if they'll do some sort of half-and-half thing. It's been talked about, but it's just talk. Management Your experience here is going to vary wildly depending on what team you get put on. Some of our managers are great, some of them are ambivalent, and some of them are bad. I'm lucky enough to quite like my manager. One pro of working for a massive company is if you don't like your team you might be able to move to a different one. I've seen this work out for people, but I've also seen it fail when their current manager refuses to let them leave. The Work Tech stack wise, we use a little bit of everything. The vast majority of the work gets done in Java (with Spring for web server stuff) or NodeJS (with hapi for web server stuff). C++ gets used for point of sale. I've heard of other stuff being used for various niche use cases, like .NET, COBOL, Clojure, Scala, but that's uncommon. Some people work on newfangled cloud stuff. Some people use ancient proprietary IBM platforms. It's a real mix of old and new, and it's all dependent on what team you get put on. To make things more fun if you go through the standard hiring process you get put into a pool and sent out to teams arbitrarily, meaning the guy who interviews you won't be your manager. We're not supposed to do it, but some teams go around this and interview for a specific team. My day Zoom meeting for stand up. Usually done in 10 minutes unless people monologue about things that should be in a different meeting If I don't have a task bother manager man for one, as I'm to lazy to try and figure out which P1 card is the P1est Work for part of the day, doing backend Java stuff Pretend to work for the rest of the day About every two weeks there's a longer meeting (30 minutes to an hour) Work Life Balance 45 hour work week used to be a thing, but hasn't been since around 2017ish. There was some drama about that, because they went from saying "you work 45 hours" to saying nothing at all. New hires assumed 40, and were fine. Old hires got pissed as no one told them they could switch to 40. On my team, at least, the manager says "there's no set number of hours, as long as the work gets done". That being said, in the office there was some strong peer pressure to not leave early. Work-from-home has no such pressure. I'm pretty happy with the 100% work-from-home, but when that comes to an end I might end up leaving, as I was pretty neutral about Walmart before work-from-home spoiled me. Titles Associate Software Engineer: Fresh out of college people start here Software Engineer 1: Should be an easy promotion after a year of the previous title Software Engineer 2: Masters degree people start here Software Engineer 3: Allegedly hard to get? ...Titles continue, but I don't remember them off the top of my head HR has a written policy on how big of a raise a promotion comes with. The maximum is 10%, unless you get some high level exec to make an exception. If they think they're underpaying you they'll happily give you the 10% raise. If not they'll start to reduce it and hope you don't notice. Promotions aside, there's also a standard performance-based raise and bonus at the end of the year. If your performance is average this ends up being around 5%.
