For the price point, Lodge is about the best quality you can get. Most people who want a dutch oven but don't want to go all in and risk ruining a $300 Le Creuset or Staub usually go with a Lodge. I hear their customer services is good, too. Definitely go for a Lodge, but get the size and shape that makes the most sense to you... I know some people who buy or are gifted dutch ovens and they never use them because they bought a ludicrously large size, or they accidentally bought the bread oven, or they only want to use pots that can be dishwashed, etc... I suggest starting with a 4.5 or 6 quart DO (with a lid) and seeing how much you like using it. You can even start with one that has no enamel if you're worried about scratching it. I'm replacing my hand me down Lodge dutch oven and wanted to know what the deal is with the model sold exclusively at Walmart. I love my Lodge dutch oven and cast iron skillet, but moreso than brand loyalty - the price is a primary consideration for me in sticking with Lodge (although recommendations are welcome). My main issue with my current traditional Lodge dutch oven is the curved sides create a smaller cooking surface requiring me to cook larger quantities in batches. The Walmart model has straight sides akin to the Le Creuset and Cuisinart dutch ovens that are highly recommended plus it is $20 cheaper. Seems like a win/win scenario, but wanted to ask if there is a noticeable downside / drop in quality considering Walmart's reputation.

Honestly I wouldn’t buy the Walmart one. I don’t know that there’s a difference in quality here specifically. But I know that Walmart negotiates with companies to get cheaper (lower quality) versions. Friend worked at a company that produced cheaper blenders than they sell elsewhere for sale at Walmart.
