With the recent announcement of the 3% reward rate I thought it might be a good idea to give the Walmart Rewards Mastercard a try. I applied a few weeks ago and got an immediate approval for the World MC version.

I received an email with a temporary e-card that I could use while waiting for the actual card to arrive. In light of the labour dispute at Canada Post, I wondered if the card would arrive in time to be able to setup account access and pay the bill. So, I called the customer service number and was assured that Fairstone was using a courier to deliver cards. Nevertheless, I decided not to risk using the temporary e-card.

Two days later, I received the first of many marketing emails urging me to activate my card. Although the original notification email with the temporary card had my name spelled correctly, I observed that this marketing message had my name spelled incorrectly. I had applied using the OnFido credential verification system, so they had my name exactly as it appears on my driving licence. But, their computer decided to truncate my middle name. I called and asked if that was just a problem with the email system, or if my card was issued in the wrong name. Apparently, it was the latter. No problem, they said, we'll send out a new card with your name corrected.

Well ... the 10 business days have now passed since that call, and there's been no sign of the original card, nor of the replacement. But the annoying reminders to activate the card I don't have continue to arrive almost daily, and they continue to have the wrong name on them.

I called customer service again. This time I was told that there was a postal strike and that I should expect my card in three weeks. I did not get a coherent response when I mentioned their earlier assertion that it would be coming by courier.

Has anybody actually received one of these cards since the September announcment ?

Every time I go to Walmart with my mother there's always an employee advertising their mastercard so I finally decided to go and look at how the rewards and benefits and all I'm gonna say is to me the credit card is a joke! I understand the value of theirvpoints are a full dollar and they can't make the earn rates high but it doesn't seem worth it to me. How about you guys?
