Every time I go to Walmart with my mother there's always an employee advertising their mastercard so I finally decided to go and look at how the rewards and benefits and all I'm gonna say is to me the credit card is a joke! I understand the value of theirvpoints are a full dollar and they can't make the earn rates high but it doesn't seem worth it to me. How about you guys?

Theres no annual fee and threshold to qualify is very low. For some people it might be a good option. But yes, if you have the ability to get almost any card, there are many better options.

I hadn't been asked about this card in a while but last time I was in self check out, the lady waited until my total hit a certain amount and then came over to ask if I wanted to save $40. I said "no" and she kept talking, so I just said "no no no no" over her talking and she finally stopped and walked away. If your card is so great, you don't need your employees to shove it down everyone's throats because people will actually WANT it.

We purchase the majority of our groceries at Walmart (probably around $800 a month). We also generally order online and pick it up at the store.
Currently we use the Tangerine MasterCard for groceries, which gives up 2% at the stores and I believe only 0.5% when ordered online.
I was just wondering if it would be worth it to get the Walmart MasterCard instead. It gives 5% on select Walmart brands and 1.25% at the store and online. For the World MasterCard you can get back 3% online, which is much better than 0.5% we get now.
Just wondering if there are any downsides or anything I'm missing. Thanks.

Rogers world elite will give you 1.5% cashback on everything no limits, even if you’re not a rogers customer. You could run a search on here too and reset and just input spending in Walmart categories. Mbna world elite is also a decent option.

It gives 5% on select Walmart brands and 1.25% at the store and online. 1.25 for everything else kind of sucks, do you MOSTLY purchase those select Walmart brands? For the World MasterCard you can get back 3% online, which is much better than 0.5% we get now. Are you a rogers / fido / shaw customer? You can get effectively 3% on EVERYTHING if redeemed on paying off your rogers / fido / shaw bills with the Rogers Mastercards.

I probably spend $800+/month on groceries at Walmart and so far I have been using my Chase Amazon Prime credit card that I think pays only 1% cash back for groceries. If I read correct, would I get a 5% cash back or reward if I bought my Walmart groceries using the Walmart credit card? One thing I don't like is it looks like I would have to use a phone app when using the Walmart credit card-- how hard is that to install and use at check out?

You only get 5% if you buy online and have the items shipped or groceries delivered. The card is added to your Walmart app and it's super easy to pay. You just open the walmart app and scan the QR code at checkout in-store. Buying in store you only get 2%.

With that kind of monthly spend you might want to check out the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards card . It gets 6% back at Walmart (first $1500 each quarter, then 1.5%). Annual fee is waived first year so you could try it out, then $95/y. And you do get a $250 sign up bonus that covers the annual fee for two more years. On your stated $2400 per quarter, $1500 at 6% is $90 and $900 at 1.5% is 13.5 So total $103.5 per quarter —> $414 per year. More than justifies the annual fee. If you wanted to further maximize your cash back, you could use a combination of cards. This US Bank Shopper Cash Reward card for the first $1500 each quarter, then a no AF card that gets 3% or more for the remaining $900, like the Amex BCE others have mentioned or the PayPal Cashback Mastercard.
