Walmart MoneyCard unable to verify
I reckon I don't know much about reload-able gift cards, so I can't help you. I'd imagine going to customer service at Walmart would solve your issue though, someone there probably knows what's wrong. I'm just curious though as to why you don't have a regular old bank account? I have friends that live their lives on prepaid cards also and I'm always curious about why they go through the trouble of cashing their checks, just to wait in line to put the money on a card. "I don't trust banks" is what they always say. But their paycheck is from a bank. They cash the check at a bank. Then they go to Walmart and put their money on a prepaid card (owned by a bank) so I never understood. More on reddit.com

Walmart Money Card ISSUE
I noticed a weird transaction on my card this month. Called and the rep confirmed that someone at an ATM in California (I'm in Oregon) used my card and got $143.25 out plus a $2.50 trans fee. They also said that they tried to use it again but used the wrong pin(?) I had questions ...1. can they tell from where the transaction was made or by who? 2. How do you use an ATM without a physical card? 3. How do you withdrawal such a strange amount from an ATM, I thought they were in whole amounts only . (They are) . 4. What should I do. Rep was super nice and I could almost understand everything they said. He said they would deactivate the card and issue me a new one and also start an investigation. He gave me 2 case numbers. One for the amount of transaction and one for the ATM fee. He sent me two emails from the dispute department. He said if in 10 days they were still investigating they would credit my account the $143 . The emails came in just a few minutes in PDF. I filled them out and signed but before I sent them back I noticed that one form was headed Statement of Fraud and requymento acknowledged that I was the account holder of said account and had x amount taken fraudulently. The account number didn't match mine. So I called and asked for a correction. I was told they couldn't correct the account number on the email form they sent me. To just sign it and send it if I want that money back. I was super confused and kept repeating that I wasn't comfortable singing the paper if it didn't have the correct information on it. They got audibly annoyed. After much back and forth , they hung up on me. I called back. Mind you , it's not just one person you speak to. You have to give several people your story and info before being transferred to the "Dispute specialist Rep" . This rep agreed to send me new emails with correct info. So I asked them to wait on the line with me so that when they come I can check first before hanging up as it's extremely hard and time consuming to get this far. He refused and hung up. Emails took all day to arrive unlike the first ones. Still with incorrect account number. I was flabbergasted. I called what I thought was Corp next day. I asked if they would be comfortable signing a "legal" (?!)fraud statement if it didn't have the right account number on it . He agreed he would not want to sign. He said he would look "into" it. He seemed to know what he was doing and claimed to have my info there and could clearly see that the case number I was given matches my real account number but that the account number on the email form I was to sign didn't. He said he couldn't do anything but assure me that when the investigation will show it's my account they are refunding. He said go ahead and cross off the wrong account number, sign and send. By now it's been 3.5 days of phone games and I only have 10 so I reluctantly agreed. I crossed it out, and wrote the account number for the fraud and sent. I hear nothing for almost a week. No new card yet, my pay was added from work and couldn't access. I was reviewing the emails I had received that first day and noticed that it said they would be a confirmation email coming after they receive my forms back. I called as it had been almost a week. The automated system let me know I had a fraud case going for $2.50 and nothing more. So I spoke to a rep. This rep sounded like I had just woke him from a drunken stupor. He was extremely slurred and with the native tougne almost impossible to understand. He was audibly annoyed and verged on rude. He said he can see that I have a case for $2 .50 and $143.25. I said how come I didn't get an email cony, and he loudly yelled , this is your confirmation!!! I was shocked and was like , um ok. So fast forward, I hear nothing. It's almost 12 days. I call to check the status and it said that the fraud of $2.50 was denied. That's it. No email . So I call about the 143 . 25. They hang up. I call back. They hang up. I am feeling now. Then I check my email. There is a denial statement saying they investigated and found the charge to be authorized. Wtaf. I call back and get through to about 3 different people all either hang up or pretty much tell me to probe the charge wasn't authorized, talk to the merchant or get a police report. I am dumbfounded. I say , what merchant??? Idk who the f the merchant is , I was told it was an ATM by their first rep. Police report? What do I say ? Someone I dk who took money from me but I don't know from where. Jesus help me. I have zero patience left when the final rep who sounds like a bad actor with a very nasally fake accent tells me the address to the so called ATM. They tell me to they like to let me know that the old investigation is over , if I want to refile a new fraud claim I have to get proof. I really am at a loss at this point. It's about more than $143 .. it's like what the actual fuck is going on here. If you call Green Dot it goes to the same damn ppl that you get calling the Walmart money card number. The address the rep gave me was 8101 Greenback ln Fair oaks California. If anyone knows wth I can do to just figure this out I'd be thrilled. I mean it's a CVS pharmacy. Wth. I'm sure they have an ATM but nothing makes sense about any of this. Not to mention. When I noticed the money gone it was the 11th. They said the fraud happened on the 10th. My online statement shows it on the 9th . Flipping weird. Help? More on reddit.com

I purchased a walmart money card and filled it with most of my 1st paycheck. They were unable to verify my identity and I am now unable to make cash withdrawals. What do?

You should be fine, if you do not get called by the scheduled time I would continously call until you get connected to a competent person or supervisor. Also I would go open a bank account with any legitimate bank in your area so you can start building a relationship with that bank and not worry about these things in the future.

r/povertyfinance on Reddit: Walmart MoneyCard unable to verify
July 11, 2020 -

So. Finally got my stimulus check after months of trying to wrestle it from the arms of the person whose address it had been mistakenly sent to. I'm psyched out of my mind for it because finally, fucking finally I can get a working computer instead of my old busted one that has two broken hinges and needs my phone tethered to it in order for me to even use the internet on it. This is a priority for me as most of my means of receiving income depend on reliable internet access and a functioning computer. So the first thing I do is go put $500 of it (the max amount you can load at one time) on a Walmart MoneyCard so I can actually like, spend it on online purchases.

Fast forward to this morning, I go to activate my MoneyCard. It asks me for my DOB and social security number, makes me set a PIN, all standard stuff. But for some reason or another, IT DOESN'T WANT TO VERIFY THE FUCKING CArd. I can't withdraw or load money, I can't use it for online purchases (which was the whole point), and I can't get through to an actual person on their help line to sort things out.

This is half my check down the drain. How fucked am I? Would I be able to get the money refunded or even verify the card so I can actually use it in person at Walmart customer service, or should I just kiss my chances of actually having functioning hardware to do my work on goodbye?

Edit: I registered on r/assistance in hopes that if nothing can be done about the card, I can still hopefully raise the $500 that I lost to this bullshit.

I made a huge mistake and bought 2 Walmart Money cards ...
June 14, 2012 -

First of all, i know it was dumb to make a purchase without consulting reviews first, but i REALLY thought it was exactly like a gift card, only reloadable.

I live in Mexico, about 500 miles from the border to the US, and I have been planning a trip to San Diego with my girlfriend for about 4 months now (Saving up for about year). I have everything set up and, as i am usually very careful planning, thought it would be a good idea to have ALL our spending money ($500 for shopping and $500 for trip expenses) put into prepaid debit cards in case we got robbed or something like that.

Long story short, i bought 2 Walmart MoneyCards (i had used visa gift cards before to buy things in the US with no problems, and i thought this was the same) loaded with $500 each. They were sold by the oldest granny cashier ever, who didnt really look like she knew what she was doing, and NEVER mentioned the fact that you need your social security number to activate them. The problem is, you DO.

Now im home, so far away from the nearest Walmart, unable to activate the cards because im Mexican and i dont have a damn SSN... I have ALL of my girlfriend's hard earned shopping money and months and months worth of my savings into 2 pieces of plastic that i cant use, and the trip is in 4 days. All the tickets have been bought and the hotel reservation has been made.

So Reddit, i BEG you... PLEASE help me think of a way to solve this. I have looked all over the internet and every single comment about this card is that Walmart doesnt give a shit, and refunds take weeks, if they EVER give them. I am a 24 year old with very low income, and i am about to cry in frustration with so much planning and effort about to go down the drain...

What can i do??

All i can think of right now, is that i have 2, maybe 3 people who could lend me their SSN in the US. So a couple of options arise at this moment:

-Input their information on the registration page, and use the debit card as if it was my own, as the only thing the card says on the front is "VALUED CUSTOMER" and they wont be able to tell if its not mine in the clothing stores? (This is my main idea) Is there ANY way they can see the information on the card with just a swipe at the register?

-Input all their information on the registration page, then go to an ATM the minute i get to San Diego and withdraw all the cash i can, $2 ATM fee be damned. --What is the max ammount i can withdraw in an ATM per day? Can i get all 500? -- Is there ANY chance anyone can know that i am using a card that doesnt have my name on it to withdraw from an ATM machine? I have never used an ATM on the US, does it ever ask for such information? Or just a PIN number? NVM, i just read on the page i cant withdraw from the ATM until i get a 'personalized' card, dammit.

-New idea, potentially dumb: Is there any way to generate a SSN for myself? And use it for the card?

Please reddit, help me out, i am so desperate..
