Walmart MoneyCard unable to verify
I made a huge mistake and bought 2 Walmart Money cards, please help me find a fix! (details inside)
Walmart Money Card ISSUE
I purchased a walmart money card and filled it with most of my 1st paycheck. They were unable to verify my identity and I am now unable to make cash withdrawals. What do?
You should be fine, if you do not get called by the scheduled time I would continously call until you get connected to a competent person or supervisor. Also I would go open a bank account with any legitimate bank in your area so you can start building a relationship with that bank and not worry about these things in the future.

So. Finally got my stimulus check after months of trying to wrestle it from the arms of the person whose address it had been mistakenly sent to. I'm psyched out of my mind for it because finally, fucking finally I can get a working computer instead of my old busted one that has two broken hinges and needs my phone tethered to it in order for me to even use the internet on it. This is a priority for me as most of my means of receiving income depend on reliable internet access and a functioning computer. So the first thing I do is go put $500 of it (the max amount you can load at one time) on a Walmart MoneyCard so I can actually like, spend it on online purchases.
Fast forward to this morning, I go to activate my MoneyCard. It asks me for my DOB and social security number, makes me set a PIN, all standard stuff. But for some reason or another, IT DOESN'T WANT TO VERIFY THE FUCKING CArd. I can't withdraw or load money, I can't use it for online purchases (which was the whole point), and I can't get through to an actual person on their help line to sort things out.
This is half my check down the drain. How fucked am I? Would I be able to get the money refunded or even verify the card so I can actually use it in person at Walmart customer service, or should I just kiss my chances of actually having functioning hardware to do my work on goodbye?
Edit: I registered on r/assistance in hopes that if nothing can be done about the card, I can still hopefully raise the $500 that I lost to this bullshit.
First of all, i know it was dumb to make a purchase without consulting reviews first, but i REALLY thought it was exactly like a gift card, only reloadable.
I live in Mexico, about 500 miles from the border to the US, and I have been planning a trip to San Diego with my girlfriend for about 4 months now (Saving up for about year). I have everything set up and, as i am usually very careful planning, thought it would be a good idea to have ALL our spending money ($500 for shopping and $500 for trip expenses) put into prepaid debit cards in case we got robbed or something like that.
Long story short, i bought 2 Walmart MoneyCards (i had used visa gift cards before to buy things in the US with no problems, and i thought this was the same) loaded with $500 each. They were sold by the oldest granny cashier ever, who didnt really look like she knew what she was doing, and NEVER mentioned the fact that you need your social security number to activate them. The problem is, you DO.
Now im home, so far away from the nearest Walmart, unable to activate the cards because im Mexican and i dont have a damn SSN... I have ALL of my girlfriend's hard earned shopping money and months and months worth of my savings into 2 pieces of plastic that i cant use, and the trip is in 4 days. All the tickets have been bought and the hotel reservation has been made.
So Reddit, i BEG you... PLEASE help me think of a way to solve this. I have looked all over the internet and every single comment about this card is that Walmart doesnt give a shit, and refunds take weeks, if they EVER give them. I am a 24 year old with very low income, and i am about to cry in frustration with so much planning and effort about to go down the drain...
What can i do??
All i can think of right now, is that i have 2, maybe 3 people who could lend me their SSN in the US. So a couple of options arise at this moment:
-Input their information on the registration page, and use the debit card as if it was my own, as the only thing the card says on the front is "VALUED CUSTOMER" and they wont be able to tell if its not mine in the clothing stores? (This is my main idea) Is there ANY way they can see the information on the card with just a swipe at the register?
-Input all their information on the registration page, then go to an ATM the minute i get to San Diego and withdraw all the cash i can, $2 ATM fee be damned. --What is the max ammount i can withdraw in an ATM per day? Can i get all 500? -- Is there ANY chance anyone can know that i am using a card that doesnt have my name on it to withdraw from an ATM machine? I have never used an ATM on the US, does it ever ask for such information? Or just a PIN number? NVM, i just read on the page i cant withdraw from the ATM until i get a 'personalized' card, dammit.
-New idea, potentially dumb: Is there any way to generate a SSN for myself? And use it for the card?
Please reddit, help me out, i am so desperate..
