So. Finally got my stimulus check after months of trying to wrestle it from the arms of the person whose address it had been mistakenly sent to. I'm psyched out of my mind for it because finally, fucking finally I can get a working computer instead of my old busted one that has two broken hinges and needs my phone tethered to it in order for me to even use the internet on it. This is a priority for me as most of my means of receiving income depend on reliable internet access and a functioning computer. So the first thing I do is go put $500 of it (the max amount you can load at one time) on a Walmart MoneyCard so I can actually like, spend it on online purchases.
Fast forward to this morning, I go to activate my MoneyCard. It asks me for my DOB and social security number, makes me set a PIN, all standard stuff. But for some reason or another, IT DOESN'T WANT TO VERIFY THE FUCKING CArd. I can't withdraw or load money, I can't use it for online purchases (which was the whole point), and I can't get through to an actual person on their help line to sort things out.
This is half my check down the drain. How fucked am I? Would I be able to get the money refunded or even verify the card so I can actually use it in person at Walmart customer service, or should I just kiss my chances of actually having functioning hardware to do my work on goodbye?
Edit: I registered on r/assistance in hopes that if nothing can be done about the card, I can still hopefully raise the $500 that I lost to this bullshit.
