I saw a news article that Walmart is planning to raise the national average starting wage from 17.50 to 18. What does that actually mean? In my store it's not anywhere close to 17.50, it is 14.

It's incredibly deceptive advertising. The starting pay in most stores is 14$ per hour. The only reason they advertise an average wage of 18$ is because that figure includes team leads who get paid that much and sometimes way more than that. That 18$ figure is completely meaningless to a new associate.

Yes it’s an average wage, doesn’t mean it will be 18 for everyone. It just means if they put all the start wages together for the whole country it would average out to 17-18 dollars.
