📢 Update!
I found an answer and am sharing in case anyone else looks for this information:
I took a picture of the limited student discount sign offer on July 23rd. From what I can tell, it looks like they do this every summer before students return for fall semester. I'm not sure when it actually starts but they do put up a physical sign inside the store with the expiration date of the offer. Here is a picture: Walmart student offer
I ended up getting a different offer (didn't require student verification) of paying $98 for the year but they gave me $40 in Walmart Cash immediately, so really it was like paying $58 for the year. Still $9 more than the $49 annual student discount but I didn't want to wait till next summer for it to be offered again.
They often have Black Friday deals that are either the same or close to the $49 annual price so that might be an option for you that is just next month! I originally was going to wait for this but then got the offer I noted above. Here is a screenshot: Walmart $40 WalmartCash offer

I go to the: https://www.walmart.com/plus/student and then there is nothing on that page to take you to verifying as a student. You can only sign up as a regular member or with Walmart+ Assist which is only for customers who use government assistance. I even tried clicking that and there is no drop down for student. I spent an hour on the phone with Walmart and they couldn't help me.
Maybe it's just not currently available in my state (Pennsylvania) and the representative didn't know that?
I just came across this offer on my gold card and also checked out the Walmart website for student pricing. I currently am a student so I would be eligible for the 50% off student discount for Walmart+ making it $49 a year instead of $98. I was wondering if I got the student plan discount, if I can get the amex offer as well making it effectively $0 for Walmart+. It does say spend $98, so maybe I could sign up for the regular membership with my amex, then call Walmart support and tell them I’m a student so I can get my student discount back? I looked around and have seen people get their student discount after already paying. I was wondering if anyone had done this yet?
