I have always thought that Walmart's self checkout is silly with having to still go to the Self Checkout line and all so I always avoided using it BUT today I found out how freaking useless it is.
Today I signed up W+ to try to save a few seconds at checkout cuz I was in a hurry. The app tells me what I already knew: you scan items, scan code at self checkout and then show associate the receipt. I had assumed that the associate scan is done at the door ( just like in Sam's Club) so I tried to be smart by scanning at self check out while my wife heads to the door separately.
It turns out that there is another associte scan right at the self checkout area too. I had to call my wife to walk all the way back to that area, get an associate to scan my items AND THEN another associate check your receipt at the door. That is 3 freaking scans for the same sale.
It is completely idiotic. Using self checkout as normal is way faster. This is paying for a feature that is worse than the free version.
The worst part is that it works sooo well at Sam's and that is also a Walmart company. In Sam's, a single associate scans your items randomly at the door and all is good. It is at least 3 times faster than using a register and it always shocks me how few people use Express Checkout at Sams (same story at BJ's but that has nothing to do with Walmart).
How can two sides of the same company do things sooo differently?
I have zero use for W+ other than trying to use Scan & Go. My some reason my local store wont deliver even tho it isnt far, near by Mobiles dont do the W+ discount, I already have Paramount+ without ads, and Amazon Prime still does better shipping than Walmart +. Like, what use does this silly membership even have?
I was really excited to finally do my Sunday grocery shopping and avoid the checkout lanes.
$100 a year, connect to their wifi (no reason for that), and still bring myself to that damn supercenter.. please just let me actually scan and go?
WHY am I required to still go to a checkout lane, just to continue paying with my phone?? "Scan & Go," hello? What am I paying this membership for? ☹️
They are already checking my cart at the door, so it's not for an associate to check if I stole something.
The register simply reflects what I am already looking at on my phone. Then the actions are still done on my phone lmao.
Who tf designed this
TIL employees want r/walmart as an exclusive club (not the dedicated employee subreddit 😅) god damnit I hate Walmart.
Anyone out there who works at Walmart, explain the Scan and Go feature? I have it with my Walmart+ but haven't used it yet!
My store is almost all self-checkout now. About 80% of the checkouts are self-checkout.
I use the Scan & Go app on my phone because it makes checkout much faster. I walk up, scan the QR code on the screen, then bag my items, and I'm off. It's fast, and that's what I need.
I am curious about what associates see when I scan the QR code and pay for the items. Do they get notified of the transaction and register number? Do they get any info about how many items I have purchased? Does the information pop up on their handled device along with info from the 20+ other self-checkout registers?
I try to be an honest shopper and try to teach my kids to do the same. I want to explain to them what is happening on the back end, and I am curious.
Don't use the scan and go feature if you don't want to be treated like a criminal!!!
I Went to Walmart on Washington Ave yesterday afternoon with my family, and used the scan and go feature on the Walmart app to scan my products as I put them in the cart. I went to the self check out (which is what the app says to do) and the employees standing by the "Sparks Drivers" lanes told me I had to go to those registers. So I did. I went to scan the QR code on the screen with my phone to pay, and the employee wouldn't move, just remained leaning on the register. I payed and showed him the little barcode that pops up and asked if he needed to scan it. He tried to scan it but then started asking what did I buy. I showed him, and asked if I could bag my groceries on the side of the register and he said no, and that I had to go to customer service. Then he said I had more than 39 items, and him and another worker stood in front of my mart-cart and told me to count my items. So I took my bags out of the cart and counted the stuff right there in front of them, right in the center of the self pay check outs. By the time I was finished, security was called (who started questioning my 12 year old son) and they called some kind of store manager down. She then re-counted my items, checked for each one on my reciept, and then said "you can go". It was bizarre to say the least, extremely embarrassing for me and my family, and the staff was rude as hell! The manager never looked at me once, just rifled through my bags and said "you can go". I said "Oh, ReAlLy? I CaN? 🙃" I just glared at her as she put the bags back in the mart cart. The security guard apologized and was at least personable. The two Walmart employees that guard the registers and started this whole thing were very rude and dismissive.
I know Walmart is not an ideal place to shop, but I am currently out on sick leave due to a disability and am just trying to maintain some type of normalcy for my children, so I buy my pantry items there to stretch my very small budget.
It was scary and humiliating to say the least, and downright degrading.
I didn't steal, I didn't "forget" to scan anything, and this is how they act. I didn't yell or cause a scene, but the employees surrounding me did, and I am still upset.
