The numbers quoted were 425 vacant or open positions eliminated and 212 laid off. Bottom on top, staff are expendable and easily replaced with temps (admin's views not my own as staff) so if they need to cut another 100+ people in order to "protect" the endowment, they absolutely will. What are faculty going to do if there's not enough staff to assist them? Riot? Quit? LOL. Faculty have been told to suck it up and shut their mouths. More on reddit.com

It's not crystal clear, but basically remote workers are tied to the company site from which they receive assignments or to which they report. So if the company has a phyical office in Los Angeles which is assigning work to 30 remote employees in 30 different states, those 30 employees would be considered sited in Los Angeles for WARN purposes. TIL there’s something called a WARN report where a company over 75 people has to give the state 60 days’ notice of a layoff – oh, and it’s public.
WARN Act has been around forever... at least as long as I've been working and I graduated college in '99. I remember it being discussed with regard to mass layoffs at a dot com I worked for in 2001. Why companies often give 60 days severance in lieu of keeping people around as lame ducks for that time
