You need to include reactor-netty on the classpath. As by default that is the HTTP client used by WebClient.

pom.xml:

<dependency>
    <groupId>io.projectreactor.netty</groupId>
    <artifactId>reactor-netty</artifactId>
</dependency>

July 23, 2025 - It is also the replacement for the classic RestTemplate. It is a part of spring-webflux library and also offers support for both synchronous and asynchronous operations. The DefaultWebClient class implements this WebClient interface. For Maven: Add this dependency to the pom.xml file.

July 25, 2024 - The WebClient should also be preferred in Spring MVC, in most high concurrency scenarios, and for composing a sequence of remote, inter-dependent calls. Let’s start creating a new project using this command: ... buildscript { ext { springBootVersion = '2.1.0.RELEASE' } repositories { mavenCentral() } dependencies { classpath("org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-gradle-plugin:${springBootVersion}") } } apply plugin: 'java' apply plugin: 'org.springframework.boot' apply plugin: 'io.spring.dependency-management' group = 'com.jos.dem.springboot.webclient' version = '0.0.1-SNAPSHOT' sourceCompatibility = 1.8 repositories { mavenCentral() } dependencies { implementation('org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-starter-webflux') compileOnly('org.projectlombok:lombok') testImplementation('org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-starter-test') testImplementation('io.projectreactor:reactor-test') }

Mastering WebClient in Spring Boot: A Complete Guide | by Ayoub seddiki | Medium
January 29, 2025 - To start using WebClient, you need to add the required dependencies to your pom.xml (if you’re using Maven): <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId> <artifactId>spring-boot-starter-webflux</artifactId> </dependency> </dependencies> Now, create a WebClient Bean in your configuration class: @Configuration public class WebClientConfig { @Bean public WebClient webClient() { return WebClient.builder() .baseUrl("https://api.example.com") .defaultHeader(HttpHeaders.CONTENT_TYPE, MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON_VALUE) .build(); } } This WebClient instance will be injected wherever needed in the application.

Introduction to Spring WebClient - amitph
November 22, 2024 - In order to use WebClient in a Spring Boot Project we need add dependency on WebFlux library. Like any other Spring Boot dependencies, we have to add a starter dependency for WebFlux (spring-boot-starter-webflux). For Maven built projects, add the starter dependency for WebClient in pom.xml File.

Combining Spring Web MVC and WebClient on a code level is pretty straight forward to get started, although, it is admittedly not intuitive at first: // build.gradle.kts plugins { java id("org.springframework.boot") version "3.0.5" id("io.spring.dependency-management") version "1.1.0" } repositories { mavenCentral() } dependencies { implementation("org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-starter-web") implementation("org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-starter-webflux") }
