My fiancée and I already know where we’re getting married, and we’re just gathering the funds for booking it. It’s at an aviation museum! 😁🛩️ A lot of people say to hold off on dress shopping before booking, mainly because they don’t know what venue they’re going to have yet. But, since we already know our choice of venue, I’ve been wondering if it’s normal to book appointments for trying on wedding dresses if you, for sure, know the venue you’re going with?
Do you know the general season, too? Otherwise, I would still wait. Unless you live in an area that’s the same weather year round.
That being said, if you’re that excited, there’s no harm in making appointments. And it can still be the right dress even if it doesn’t fit the particular wedding. I got married in Spring, but even if I got married in the fall I knew I didn’t want a dress with long sleeves, for instance
I don’t understand what the venue has to do with the dress?
Hello all! My fiancé and I have been scoping out venues for a few months now, but to no avail. We’ll be seeing one this weekend I’m hopeful for but we’ll see. Anyways, we still do not have a firm date or venue, but we’re consistent with our wants and style, as well as thinking Fall ‘22.
We live in NC, while both of our families and friend groups live in MA. We don’t get up there that often but will be there in a few weeks. I’d love to use this time to look at dresses with my mom, and maybe my two close friends - is it too soon? Do I need to have a date or venue set?
I just really want to use this opportunity I have around my mom and friends to start looking because I don’t know when we’ll be together again... thoughts?
I did and regretted it. We ended up picking a venue completely different than that dress and I exchanged it. Went from a more elegant vibe. To a luau theme.
Some people think your dress should match your venue but I am very anti that thought. Your dress should match you. It should represent your style and what you love. I didn’t even consider my venue when I shopped for my dress and I’m happy that I didn’t. The only thing you may want to consider if you are going to be looking at long sleeves, you may not want to land on a summer date but you can make those decisions later!
And if you could do everything over again, would you still make the decisions in that order?
Venue first, dress second! And yes, I’d do it again!
It’ll really depend on how you see yourself on your wedding day and what you’re more picky about.
I’m very very particular about space & guest convenience. So I really wanted to make sure those ducks were in a row, and then I picked my dress.
If you know you want to be totally blinged out & want a venue to match - sure go dress shopping first!
Or if you know you struggle to find clothes where you feel beautiful and confident - go dress shopping first!
If you feel comfortable in lots of different styles & silhouettes I’d also do venue first
venue first!! yes, I think it’s important for the dress to match the venue / vibe. before doing anything else, the venue should be locked down and a budget made!
