I’ve been encouraged to start a gift registry even if it’s just a small one by my family and I don’t totally disagree but my partner and I already have the “normal” registry items. We have lived together for almost 4 years and in that time we have accumulated all the household appliances and items that I’m seeing on gift registries! Would it be weird to have the registry be full of hobby based things and encourage people to do cash gifts? What are some ideas that are out of the box?

If you have anything that you bought cheap and/or isn’t in the best shape, upgrade! Plates, bowls, utensils, cooking utensils/tools, cookware, bakeware, knives. Most people don’t, but you should replace linens (like towels, kitchen towels, sheets, bathmats, etc) every few years, so put those on there. Outdoor stuff like lawn chairs, a cooler, or firepit. Hardware items, like tools, power tools (a drill is huge if you don’t have one), or a yard work stuff. Travel gear, like suitcases, packing cubes, or toiletry cases. Electronics, like a bluetooth speaker, AC unit, or air purifyer. Decor, like throw pillows/blankets, wall art, or faux florals/plants. Go to a home store and walk around for more ideas!

Ours is mostly camping based for the same reason! Although it is a good time to upgrade household items, for example if you like to cook and have basic cookware you could put some nicer pots and pans on the registry! Kind of thinking of it as a time to upgrade things around the house / kitchen.

I added mostly upgrades - nice towels that match, nice cutting knives, a full set of flatware, high quality bedding, nicer cutting boards, nicer wine glasses (regular and stemless) etc. I also added things I want but don’t want to buy myself- a fireproof safe, a new Christmas wreath, upgraded toaster oven/air fryer, robot vacuum, carpet cleaner. What are some must have items anyone can recommend for me to add to my registry? My fiancé and I bought a house together three years ago and already have the majority of the things we need. You don't need any upgrades? Then donate the older items to a local shelter. There is nothing at the store that you have your eye on but wouldn't spend your own money on? Do you have a fire proof safe for important documents? Do you entertain guests? Do you hike, camp or have other shared hobbies with your partner? Do you want convenience items such as a towel warmer or air fryer? Boot dryer in a snowy/wet climate? The sky is the limit. Not all guests are comfortable giving cash/honeymoon gifts and will give you items you don't want and can't return without a registry.
