Weebly vs Wix (2025): How Do These Builders Compare? | Cybernews
January 23, 2024 - And even now, Wix still holds the title of the world's most popular website builder. There's no wonder why – with two drastically different page editors, hundreds of themes, and thousands of apps, it's a platform suited for virtually anyone. A true Swiss army knife of website builders. Meanwhile, Weebly is not as important as it used to be.

Easy to use website builder? Squarespace vs Wix vs Weebly for contractors
If you haven't used squarespace I would say use that. A lot of the functionality is built in. If you have like a $500/budget or time to do it yourself. Wordpress + elementor is pretty easy with their templates. Webflow has a lot of contractor templates you could use. More on reddit.com

Is Wordpress, Wix, Squarespace, or Weebly better for authors?
Speaking as a professional WordPress dev (and thus both knowledgeable on this subject and, clearly, completely unbiased), I would strongly recommend using WordPress over any of the other options you listed. They really shouldn't even be considered in the same category. WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS), which is a piece of software that can run anywhere, developed as an open platform by the community. Whatever you make in WordPress, you fully own it in every sense of the word. If you don't like your hosting company, you can pick up and move to a different one. If you don't like your theme, you can choose a different free one, buy one, make a custom one, or hire someone to make a custom one. If you're not satisfied with the features it includes, there's a huge ecosystem of plugins, developers who can customize it for you, etc. Wix, Squarespace, and Weebly are all hosted commercial services that provide a closed platform. While you technically own your content, it's all locked into their proprietary systems. If you decide down the road you don't like their service, your only real option is to build a new website from scratch. If you don't like their themes, or the features they provide... I don't know the exact degree of customization each provides, but it's generally going to be pretty minimal. Hosted commercial services can't have customers mucking about in their code. Personally, I would never consider letting my content be locked into a closed commercial platform, so I'll always use and recommend an open CMS like WordPress. That said, if you don't like WordPress, it's certainly not the only CMS out there: Joomla, Drupal, and Typo3 are all reasonably popular options. However, WordPress is far and away the most popular — it runs ~30% of the Internet. That's not necessarily because it's the best option... But it is because it's one of the easiest CMS's to set up and use, and has the largest ecosystem. More on reddit.com

How do you guys feel about websites like weebly and wix.com

Sites like that are very similar to game making tools that abstract away from the code.

They are for people who have a passion without the skillset. I own a business and I want to get my presence online, I know nothing of development, dont want to know it, and I can't afford a contractor...etc so I use a site like wix/weebly so I can get myself online and I can at least look half decent in the process.

I'm kid with an idea for a game, no real way to make it, I don't have much in the way of programming skills, don't want to learn. i just like, have all these great game ideas, so i get an rpg maker tool or gamemaker tool and pump out a few basic games. Yeah they look terrible, are bound by the ui tooling, but the end result is I get started on my passion and am able to produce.

Maybe i'll grow enough to pickup someone who can code for me some day, but until that day, quite content with the cheap tooling.

What features or benefits keep you using WordPress over other website builders like Wix, Squarespace, or Weebly?
Freedom (different ways of doing: Gutenberg, Classic Editor, Custom Fields and Custom Post Types, third-party page builders like Elementor, Block builders, etc.) Open-source Huge helpful and competent community Great support for most plugins (free or paid) on the official forums WordPress is free You can do a lot with only free plugins if you really want to Paid plugins are often subscriptions BUT you mostly aren't forced to renew them (of course getting updates is better but if you really want to you still can continue to use the plugin without updates without paying) There are lifetime deals on some paid plugins sometimes, which is a blessing Extensible (build on top of WordPress yourself, create your own templates/blocks/plugins/themes, use it headless, etc.) Great free SEO plugins exist (with free Yoast SEO correctly configured you're already set for basic indexing without needing anything else really, it gives you everything you need: a sitemap.xml, seo tags, open-graph tags, cover images, etc.) You really OWN your website (self-hosting) and aren't depending on a builder (even if it's unlikely: what would you do if the company behind Wix disappeared tomorrow?) People also ask

Do Weebly and Wix own your content?
The short answer is no. But, Weebly makes clear that it does not claim ownership of your content but that it does need some permissions in order to host your content on its service: "You give us your permission worldwide to host your Content on the Service and to perform all acts necessary to host your Content on the Service (such as making copies, reformatting, and distributing your Content)." Nor does Wix own your content. As stipulated on its website: "You own all the materials created in your Wix account."

August 20, 2025 -

Setting up a basic website for a small construction business and looking for an easy to use website builder that includes domain registration, templates, and ideally scheduling features. I’ve tried Wix and Weebly in the past for other projects, and I’m considering Squarespace since a few people I know like it for simple sites. Budget is limited, so all-in-one solutions are preferred—I don’t want to mess with third-party domain setups. For contractors, does Squarespace have a real advantage over Wix or Weebly? Which builder handles scheduling and mobile optimization best?
