Wegovy vs Ozempic: Which is Right for You?
Both Wegovy and Ozempic contain semaglutide, but Wegovy is prescribed for long-term weight management and certain forms of liver disease, while Ozempic is used to control blood sugar in type 2 diabetes and help protect the kidneys. They both lower the risk for heart-related complications, but differ in other approved uses, side effects and costs.
Is Wegovy or Mounjaro more effective?
Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are effective for weight loss. Results from clinical studies have shown that people can lose up to 22.5% of their weight with Mounjaro, and up to 17% of their weight with Wegovy. As the active ingredients are slightly different, you may find that one treatment is better for you or that one causes fewer side effects.
Can I switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro?
Yes, you can switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro but you must wait at least 7 days between. This gives enough time for any remaining medication from Wegovy to leave your system, so you can start Mounjaro safely. No matter what Wegovy dose you were taking, you’ll start on the lowest dose of Mounjaro and follow the dosing schedule. Speak to a doctor if you want to switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro, as they can help you do so safely.
Is it just marketing or semantics? They are both administered weekly with similar doses yet insurance companies will die on the hill that you can't have ozempic if you're not type 2 diabetic. Is there something else in the drug that makes it work different? Or is it just ozempic has bigger doses? If there isn't a functional difference besides dose size it's like saying you can only take Advil if you have migraine but can take ibuprofen for anything else.
