Currently looking into buying a home in around Weston/Lawrence near the UP Express but a little bit nervous about the crime in the area. Are there particular streets that are better than others?
TPS website indicates a lot of crime in the area but location seems a bit variable.
i.e. Would north of Lawrence on Weston be more dangerous than say Lawrence west of Jane? The former seems a bit more industrial and busy, with the latter feeling a little more residential?
My main concern would be for walking between the GO station and my home after work, since it gets dark very early in the winter.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Just avoid the main streets. Weston village is actually really nice. Weston Rd, and Weston and Lawrence are a bit sketchy. As long as you aren’t hanging out at that corner at midnight, you should have nothing to worry about.

Not the best area but improving, I would stay away from anything close to the run down apartment buildings. Weston north of Lawrence definitely have quite a few of those. I don't think that it's necessarily dangerous just not very pleasant.

Honestly some of these comments are so weird. We bought in the area and really like it. It is a gentrifying area - however so many young families are moving in. Drive around Weston village and you’ll see tons and tons of new construction and renovations. Literally Multiple homes on every street. We also used to live in Danforth village and experienced more petty crime there than anything in Weston (as an aside) Here are some reasons why we like the area: Transit is unbeatable - HWYs and The Go UP - you’re downtown at union in under 15 minutes. I’m currently on Mat leave and having my husband’s commute so easy is so amazing. Close to Junction, Stockyards, Yorkdale Parks and trails Neighbourhood run free skating rink Two great local independent coffee houses (Black Cat and El Amacen) My husband and I used to live in England and we see the area as gentrifying similarly to Brixton. My child attends French immersion however the local schools according to neighbours have changed so much - and parents we’ve spoken to JK to grade 1 love The schools. More on reddit.com

May 26, 2022Thoughts on area around Jane and Lawrence, weston
We live in the neighborhood between Jane and Weston road. There have been a few car thefts but generally we feel safe here. We go for walks all the time, but generally stay to the residential areas. I'd say Weston is far more up and coming than Jane is. Lots of development happening in that side. That being said we live closer to Jane and it's fine on this side too. A big reason we bought here is the access to the UP express which can get you downtown super fast. More on reddit.com
