October 17, 2024 - I'm guessing what I have to do is rebuy it and return it with my old receipt edit: might as well talk about the damn thing. it's pretty good, I bought this model as I didn't want the blower, I don't use it and I don't like when you get crap blown everywhere because you pointed the vacuum the wrong way. I got the green HEPA filter for it, it doesn't really help for odors but it helps with general filtration. it's expensive but it's washable, always good to have a couple when one is drying out. I also use the white shop vac bags, which are high filtration for drywall dust mainly.

I feel like all of the Costco-specific items are hit or miss, but with their return policy, it’s often worth the gamble as long as you’re willing to wait in their long lines. That said, I bought an air purifier at Costco and now can’t find the replacement filters anywhere, because I don’t think they exist, so that could also be an issue with a wet/dry vac. If you’re still shopping around, there’s a Reddit user who has put a thread with a ton of research together on all the different types of vacuums. Their database should help you narrow down your options in no time.

I got the DeWalt shop vac 6 months ago, it’s been a disappointment for me. I thought it was going to replace my 20 year old Rigid that was half the cost. It’s both underpowered but still overly loud. I was hoping it’d be a shop vac for the small garage workshop, or maybe to have a dedicated shop vac for basement, but I just can’t find a use for this. Frankly it doesn’t feel up to the quality of anything I’ve had from DeWalt’s, their stuff is typical fine and suitable for a typical homeowner. This might be my fist Costco return if I wasn’t worried about being “that guy” returning old items they spent too long trying to make work.
