Weird/lesser known symptoms?
Some odd symptoms I had when younger before diagnosis - depth perception issues - I would slam my shoulder into doorframes, or break my toes because I would stub them so often, peeling fingertips. Those things stopped once I became medicated. More on reddit.com

What’s the root cause of low thyroid?
I’m sorry you are going through this. The answer to your question can be long; my class on this topic is about 40 minutes. But here’s the bullet point list. When I'm teaching, I cover the following root causes: Genetics (obviously you can't change that, but google "nutrigenomics.") Gut Triggers Hormone changes (puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause) and estrogen overload iodine low vitamin d food reactions environmental chemicals stress blood sugar issues (your not eating would fall into this category. Low blood sugar (fasting) tends to be a bigger stressor/trigger for Hashimoto’s than high blood sugar.) infections of any kind More on reddit.com

What is the most common cause of hypothyroidism?
In the U.S., Hashimoto’s disease is the most common cause of hypothyroidism. In this autoimmune disease, your immune system attacks your thyroid. This causes inflammation and your thyroid can’t make enough thyroid hormone. In areas of the world where people don’t get enough iodine in their diet, low iodine intake is the most common cause of hypothyroidism.

Can stress cause hypothyroidism?
Stress can definitely contribute to hypothyroidism. Both stressful events and chronic stress can affect your thyroid hormone levels and worsen autoimmune thyroid disease. Reducing stress may help treat hypothyroidism and some of its symptoms. One study showed that managing stress helped lower anti-thyroglobulin antibodies in women with Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism.
