I recently began reading the Bible to try to become closer to God, so I would like to begin by saying I am just seeking to understand, not belittling Christianity. If God is omnipotent, couldn't He create the Earth instantly? Also, why did God need to rest on the 7th day? Thank you for your help!
Genesis declares that Adam was created on the 8th day, and followed by Eve, and that both were placed in the garden, and I wonder if the other created humans (created on the 6th day) were also allowed to dwell there.
Genesis 1:26-27 KJV describes when the varied races of humankind were created by God, which was on the 6th Day of creation:
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let THEM have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (vs 27) So God created man in His own image created he him; male and female created he them. Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:"
Then, Genesis 2:2-3 KJV declares that God rested on the 7th day and blessed it:
"And on the 7th day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the 7th day from all His work which He had made. (vs 3) And God blessed the 7th day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all the work which God created and made."
Then, Genesis 2:6-8 KJV describes the creation of Adam on the following day; the 8th Day. Adam would serve as the bloodline to Jesus.
"But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. (vs 7) And the Lord God formed man (Adam) of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Hebrew, Nephesh=physical life, mortal being) (vs 8) And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed."
