SUBCHAPTER D. EFFECT OF CRIMINAL CONDUCT
Because the special nature of the relationship between licensees, insurance companies, other insurance-related entities and the public requires the public to place trust in and reliance upon such persons, the Department has determined that it is necessary to consider the individual's criminal history information when determining an individual's fitness for licensure or other authorization, including certification, permit, or registration, or for control of an entity holding or seeking a license or other authorization, including a certificate, permit, or registration.

r/InsuranceAgent on Reddit: Trying to get Texas all lines adjuster license, with felony record
September 9, 2020 -

I am trying to switch careers and become an insurance adjuster. I just finished the Texas all lines adjuster course and am about to take the licensing test. My concern is that I have a criminal record. I have about 21 total items on my criminal record, though most of them are misdemeanors like marijuana possession, and maybe one open container in public. The most recent is from 6 years ago, and the longest was 15 years ago. Suffice to say, I was a stupid kid. My biggest concern is a theft over 500 from 2007 (that amount is not considered a felony in my state now, but it was then) in which I was with a friend when he decided to break into his neighbors house, and a felony intent distribute charge in 2014, in which I had a personal amount of heroin, but I screwed myself by lying and saying that I was bringing it to someone else. Since then i have been clean, and I have no recent charges, and am no longer on any probation. The felonies are 7 and 14 years old, and I have no misdemeanors newer than 6 years. Does anyone have experience and know how far the background check for the licensing department will go? Should I mention these , or will they not look back that far? I know neither of these charges bar me from applying, but they donโ€™t look good. Can anyone with similar experience give me any insight on how to proceed?
