Im confused about what an ARG actually is. I get that it's an Alternate Reality Game, but I only recently started seeing ARG be used as a term during the Overwatch Sombra thing.
Im just not sure what actually counts as an ARG. Im mostly lost on what makes these things "games".
I started using youtube around 2005 and I have seen my fair share of "internet reality shows." Daxflame, lonelygirl15, and even Marble Hornets.
More recently I have seen 'That Poppy' refereed to as an ARG. Still, I have no idea what "game" has to do with any of it. These things are incredibly passive experiences.
Is the game part of ARG the mystery part? Trying to figure out the meaning? If so, would something like Don't hug me im scared count as an ARG?
What am I missing here?
Ive heard of ARG's before and am interested now but i stumbled into a post on tiktok and the comments were saying it was a part of an ARG one comments replys after another i watched the Inside A Mind video and im now interested in it but im unsure on what it is really. Ive looked it up before and just now but it still doesnt explain to me what ARG's are. Sorry if this post seems dumb its hard for me to pick up things easily and fully understand them off the get-go. TL;DR I wanna get into ARG's but dont fully understand what they are
So, I know that is stands for Alternate Reality Game but I see a lot of youtube channels that have some cryptic message behind them being called ARGs (e.g. Ash Vlogs and Daisy Brown) and I'd just like someone to explain what they fully are. The reason I want to know is because I've recently been interested in ARGs and I'd like to know more about them.
Hi, I recently opened for myself ARG. And now, I'm interested: 1.what exactly is ARG? Of course i saw some videos about ARG and all of this, but, is ARG is should be happeening in real life?(Like lefting clues in special places) Or can be made through videos on YouTube, sites etc. 2. Where and how you finding ARG? Like, for example, you just scrolling YouTube until you'll find something strange? Or maybe there's some way to find it? 3. Which skills you needed in this? Like some cryptography, or something like that? 4. And this question can be silly, but, is analog horror, like "Mandela catalogue" can counts as ARG or it something other but not ARG?
