My son recently signed up for Venmo without telling me, and said he was above 18. Then his brother sent him 40$ and now we don't know how to get the money out because he is not above 18. So what would happen if we submitted a government passport under 18? Is there anyways to get out of this situation?

Can’t you just transfer it out to a bank account without verification? I’ve never verified and I always transfer out anything I receive

All Venmo payments can be reversed if the recipient’s account isn’t fully set up. The person sending the $ will have a “take back” button and the charge will be listed as pending. Unfortunately sometimes that take back button doesn’t work, as was the case when I accidentally sent money to someone without an account last week. I chatted with Venmo via the “chat now” button on their website during business hours, and they were super helpful, resolved it in a minute! Would definitely encourage you to reach out to them to try to reverse the charge; they should be able to walk you through what options are available.

I just asked about this, and here was the response from Venmo. Sure, when a teen turns 18, their Venmo Teen Account will be converted into a regular Venmo account. They will continue to have access to their Venmo balance, transaction history, friends list, and any other information associated with their account. However, they will no longer be under the supervision of their parent or guardian. They will also have the ability to link their own bank account, debit card, or credit card to their Venmo account. Please note that the conversion process may take a few days to complete.
