r/ios on Reddit: (Null) is using camera access to control connected cameras. Error message.

(Null) is using camera access to control connected cameras.
I searched it up, and really didn’t find much help. Is my camera being hacked or something? I don’t remember the exact error message, this text is copied from one on the internet, but I think mine said something along the lines of this, and access to photos too. I’ve heard stories of this happening on computers and such, so if I get this on my phone, should I be scared? I’m literally trying to hide my face from my phone right now, even if this doesn’t mean what I might think it does, this is worrying.

Every iOS App needs to ask permission to access the users camera before access is being granted, there must be some or other bug either within iOS or the developers app that is not supplying the name of the app to the alert message being shown. The “null” is basically where you would normally see the apps name. You can go into settings / privacy / camera to get a list of every app that has requested permission to use the camera. Maybe you will see “null” there too. You can switch deny permission there to a specific app by switching the switch to off. It is highly unlikely that someone is watching you so I wouldn’t worry too much, more than likely just a bug.

'null' app
November 5, 2020 - We understand that an alert appeared last night saying that "Null" app was using the camera. When looking in the Settings area, did you check Settings > General > iPhone Storage to see if any apps show the name "Null" or something else that doesn't look familiar? If not, do that now. You can delete the app by tapping it once, then choosing "Delete App". If nothing is found there, check the Privacy area to see what apps have requested access to the camera.

December 8, 2013 - Just to update anyone else who may have this problem, I figured it out with help from Rob who definitely guided me in the right direction. It was in the iPhone settings -> General -> International. I changed region format from UK to US and then it worked. To test whether it was definitely that, I changed it back to US and it's still working.
