Is 1500 a good thread count for sheets?

A higher thread count is not always a marker of quality or softness. Anything above 1,000 thread count is likely to be of lower quality. Some manufacturers will try to use as many threads as possible, but the softness and quality of the fabric are sacrificed in the process.

Are higher thread count sheets always better?

High thread count does not always mean quality. It is more important to consider what your sheets are made of. For example, 100% bamboo fibre is much softer than 100% cotton, even if they are the same thread count. Any count over 1,000 is likely to be of lower quality.

November 29, 2022 - Bamboo fiber is naturally soft, so a 250 thread count is already soft to the touch. It may surprise you that 100% bamboo material with at least a 250 thread count is just as soft as a cotton sheet with a 400 thread count.

Hotel Sheets Direct 100% Bamboo Bed Sheets - 1600 Thread Count Cooling King Sheet & Pillowcase Set, Burgundy Labeled as 100% bamboo-derived viscose

I've been told to be wary of high thread counts because they're bogus or manipulated by 2 or 3 ply weaving. But these are 100% bamboo with good reviews. So what's the catch here? Is the thread count supposed to be the cotton feeling "equivalent?"

Also, why are they $30 more expensive than these bamboo sheets?

100% Natural Bamboo Sheets - Silky Soft Touch, Cool and Lightweight, 4 Piece Hotel Luxury Bed Sheet Set, Elasticized Deep Pocket for Snug Fit These are labeled as 100% rayon. Maybe manufacturing costs? These are OEKO-TEX certified though.

I'm having a tough time deciding on my first bamboo set (has to be king sized burgundy with a sateen weave, and it seems like people don't like making burgundy bamboo sheets) so any help would be appreciated!

r/Bedding on Reddit: Types of Bamboo Bed Sheets
November 4, 2024 -

Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone knows the difference between different types of bamboo bedsheets. I was looking around for a bamboo bedsheet, I have never bought one before so curious to know what the differences are (also for a little bit of market research). Some shops describe them as bamboo sateen, while others use the word bamboo lyocell. But they are all marketed as 100% bamboo, as opposed to some other shops that say 60% bamboo and 40% cotton (or some other mix).

Also, does the thread count matter for these bamboo bedsheets? What's the ideal thread count? I think for cotton sheets it's usually 300TC for the min. standard?

“Bamboo” is a little misleading. The material is rayon, and it’s made by denaturing cellulose and reforming it into strands (threads). It goes by a bunch of names: bamboo, eucalyptus, rayon, viscose, lyocell, tencel, modal, cactus silk, etc. Any kind of cellulose will do for making these fabrics, so they can be made from wood pulp, bamboo pulp, eucalyptus, etc. No matter the material used you will still end up with a product that feels like a synthetic fabric (very stretchy) but is made mostly of cellulose (wood, basically). The different names may denote different base materials, different environmental impacts, different manufacturing methods, etc.

Just posted this on another thread from 2 days ago, but just one popped with similar question so I'll repost my thoughts here too: Bamboo sheets are a scam - if you're looking for something similar in feel but more temp regulating, try eucalyptus/tencel sheets. My go to is Eucalypso, they're a smaller brand but their quality is the best and mine have lasted me years (just make sure you're washing them right). I've had numerous sets throughout the years, and they've outlasted any of the other brands. I'm a sheets snob and I feel like I have tried so many bamboo, eucalyptus, and cotton sheets I should do a post at this point. If you're looking for something at a lower price point, Target also makes eucalyptus sheets that's comfortable, although the ones I've got lasted shorter than my Eucalypso ones. Otherwise, just go with cotton - there's plenty of recommendations of this sub for cotton sheets. Also in addition, to answer your question, bamboo companies are not legally allowed to post their materials at 100% bamboo. They must say 100% rayon or 100% viscose, since the production process of bamboo is so environmentally damaging and intensive that there is no remaining bamboo by the end, so the fabric is technically considered rayon/viscose.
