Mean - Wikipedia
September 29, 2025 - These means were studied with proportions by Pythagoreans and later generations of Greek mathematicians because of their importance in geometry and music. The arithmetic mean (or simply mean or average) of a list of numbers, is the sum of all of the numbers divided by their count.

How to Calculate the Mean Value
It is easy to calculate: add up all the numbers, then divide by how many numbers there are. In other words it is the sum divided by the count.

Multiplication: Definition, Symbol, Table, Tricks, Properties - GeeksforGeeks
July 24, 2025 - Multiplication is an arithmetic operation that involves two or more numbers to produce a third number called the product. The numbers that are multiplied are called the factors. It is a fundamental operation in mathematics, often described as repetitive addition. This means multiplication allows us to perform addition multiple times in a more efficient way.

2 weeks ago - Multiplication is one of the four elementary mathematical operations of arithmetic, with the other ones being addition, subtraction, and division. The result of a multiplication operation is called a product. Multiplication is often denoted by the cross symbol, ×, by the mid-line dot operator, ⋅, by juxtaposition, or, in programming languages, by an asterisk, *.

Multiplication – Elementary Math
Multiplication is not repeated addition In most curricula, multiplication is introduced as repeated addition, or adding like groups. Multiplication can be used as a “shortcut” for repeated addition — just as it can be used for solving many other problems — but that’s not what it is. For one thing, as soon as students move beyond counting numbers, the repeated-addition idea no longer works. (What does it mean to “add” something two-thirds of a time, or even to “add” it zero times?!)

r/learnmath on Reddit: What do we really mean by multiplication?
February 27, 2022 -

We studies that multiplication means repeated addition of similar quantities. But when we take that ideology to physics, it doesn't feel right. For example, F = ma, what does this even mean? Are we adding the mass, acceleration times or vice-versa? What does this even signify?

Sorry if this question is a bit related to physics and kind of philosophical but I'm very curious about it. I want to understand this to the very core.

4.3 Does "and" mean multiply? | G'Day Math
The multiplication principle stated in the previous lesson relies on actions being independent, that the outcome of one action can in no way affect the outcome of the other action. Yet we often teach students to use this principle any time the word “and” appears in a probability problem, even if the events involved are NOT independent. I often hear the aphorism “And means multiply” bandied about in a care-free manner.
