CTRL + Click is the normal convention for any Microsoft product when the file is in Editing mode. You'll see when then you're writing an email, when you're creating a document or spreadsheet, etc. Using CTRL + Click allows you to use a regular click in a consistent way: as a placer or selector command.
As Word documents are always editable, you'll always need to press CTRL prior to clicking the link in order for it to work while the file is in that format. But once you've exported the file to any non-editable format, such as PDF or HTML, you'll find the links will behave as you expect, opening with a "simple" click.
Within Word you can change the View to Read Mode in the View tab and then you'll just be able to click the link without having to hold CTRL, but this only works because you're not editing the document when you're in Read mode and so there's no reason for Word to assume you wish to place or select in that context.
Answer from music2myear on Stack ExchangeHi Pealo86,
We are glad to hear that you have a workaround which is provided by Bob.
I would like to explain that it is not feasible to enable cmd + click to visit link like Windows.
Given the situation, we welcome and encourage you to share your ideas through Word UserVoice. Understanding your experience helps us to make our product and service better for you and others.
Thanks for your understanding.

If you actually don't want to disable the Hyperlinks, right-click an image. If you don't want one of the commands in the contextual menu just press esc to leave the image selected.
Additionally, once any image is selected you can click the Selection Pane button on the Picture Format tab. Using the Selection Pane you can select any one or more items without having to click the image itself... The thing is that you must have an image selected in order to display the Selection Pane.
Another option is to assign a keyboard shortcut to the SelectDrawingObjects command or add Select Drawing Objects to the QAT or Ribbon. With that tool you can drag a selection rectangle around a graphic hyperlink to select it.
Simple click doesn't work, and my software is already set to have Ctrl + Click open hyperlinks. If there are any other suggestions?
Thanks for following up. It's only in Word. I hadn't tested it in my other Office software, but I just checked in PowerPoint, and Ctrl + Click works as it should.
