The two major types of official FedEx locations customers can visit are a FedEx Office and FedEx Ship Center. Both are different and provide different services so I will list the differences here to educate customers. Any employees feel free to add to this please.
To find the nearest FedEx Ship Center or FedEx Office please go here: https://www.fedex.com/locate/index.html put your zip code in, click on Filter, and under Additional Services make sure to select Hold at Location and Packing Supplies.
I will start with services both location types provide, then I list the services exclusive to each.
Both:
-
You can pick up a package if you have one being held for you there. You need to provide the tracking number or doortag AND a valid picture ID that has the same name and/or address as the one on the package.
-
Can accept prelabelled Express and Ground packages; a drop off receipt can be provided if you ask for one and wait in line. You can also pay to ship a package by Cash, Card, Check, or FedEx Account Number.
-
Cannot accept Ground hazardous material (HAZ) shipments.
-
Provides free white FedEx boxes or envelopes for Express shipments only.
-
Sells brown boxes of varying sizes as well as bubble wrap and tape. FedEx DOES NOT provide any free tape so please do not ask because the employee will tell you to buy some.
-
Have a weight limit of 150 lbs or less and/or dimensions limit of: Length + 2(Width) + 2(Height) = 168 or less (in inches) for shipping packages. Also one side of the package cannot be more than 119 inches.
FedEx Office:
-
Can have the employees pack your shipment... for a fee.
-
Are able to scan a Mobile Label that a shipper provides to you.
-
Can accept and pack your ATT/DirecTV returns with just bringing in your equipment and account information.
-
Can do printing, emailing, copying, scanning and faxing items from their computers or from your phone.
-
Ground package cut off times are typically later than at a FedEx Ship Center.
-
Are open later and more days (many locations are 24 hours Mon-Sun) than FedEx Ship Centers.
FedEx Ship Center:
-
Can accept Express Dangerous Goods (DG) and Dry Ice shipments provided you already have it packaged up and labelled/processed with all the correct paperwork.
-
Express package cut off times are typically later than at a FedEx Office.
-
Are open Monday-Saturdays with Saturdays closing early. Some locations may not be open on Saturdays.
-
Most locations have a very small customer lobby compared to a FedEx Office and also have way less employees working there at any given time.
Things office CANNOT do?
Notarize Sell or accept stamps Print copywritten material Accept UPS packages Let you use the bathroom as a shower Tell you how to successfully ship cocaine Read your mind and figure out your email password Do your taxes Give you tips on how to counterfeit things Ship a package to someone without being provided an address of some sort Email you something you need scanned Teach you how to use a mouse Teach you how to use your own phone
One thing to add regarding Saturdays at ShipCentre locations.
On Saturdays, when you drop off or ship something at a ShipCentre, there is a $25 surcharge for “Saturday Pickup”. If you drop it off on Saturday and request it be sent out on Monday there is no $25 charge however there won’t be a drop off scan until Monday.
