MagSafe isn’t one thing, it’s a name for anything that uses Apples magnetic arrangement and licences the MagSafe name. In compatible iPhones there are magnets in the back case arranged very specifically. MagSafe accessories attach to this. For charging, MagSafe is said to improve on Qi by ensuring perfect alignment of the charging coils. Qi isn’t particularly efficient and misalignment (I.e. the charging coil not being perfectly aligned) makes this worse. MagSafe helps avoid this. But it’s also wallets, which use the MagSafe wallets to securely attach. It’s stands (charging and non-charging) which prop your iPhone up, or docks for home, bike, and car use. It’s all sorts of things, and in the unofficial market it’s also things like pop sockets and laptop attachments that let you use your iPhone as a webcam.

Are there any disadvantages of completely switching to MagSafe charging accessories?
if you go to very hot places, the heat will make the charging very slow and even make your phone slow. And it’s not the most efficient way, some of the energy will be lost in the process. Other than that, magsafe is great. More on reddit.com
