Me, my wife and child will be in NYC during Thanksgiving period. On Thanksgiving day are many things closed such as big retail stores such as NBA Store, Stores around Times Square etc?
Attractions such as statue of Liberty etc?
I know the Macy's Thanksgiving parade will be on but I think it will be too much to wake up super early to try and get a spot so trying to best plan what to do on each day but stumped as to what to do for thanksgiving. In the town we are from it's only gas stations and a few Chinese restaurants that are open though since it's NYC I assume there are more places open?

Most stuff is closed. See the parade and plan a nice meal (restaurants offer thanksgiving meals and you should book in advance), and hang out in Central Park with a hot cocoa!

I'm going to be in NYC over Thanksgiving but, not being an American, I don't have a good sense of what's likely to be open. I was thinking of hitting up the food courts in Flushing for dinner that night. Do they usually stay open? Any other tips on restaurants or areas that carry on business as usual through Thanksgiving would be much appreciated!

Plenty of other good suggestions in this thread, but I'll toss one out--if you've got American friends who are staying in the area, don't be afraid to see if you can invite yourself to Thanksgiving dinner. Quite often, it'll be a large or large-ish gathering, and plenty of people wouldn't mind setting out an extra plate for someone who wants to attend and doesn't have other plans. I don't have family in NYC, and on some years where I've stayed here I've wrangled invites to family dinners, and people were unfailingly welcoming. You should offer to bring a side dish to be polite, but if it works out, this is a great way to experience a piece of American culture that you wouldn't see otherwise.
