I have 5mm thick vinyl planks going on a wood subfloor. So many options. Contractor is recommending pergo gold but I’m sure it’s because it’s easier to work with. Stuff isn’t cheap. Is there a comparable or something that’s good and reasonably priced ?

Does your vinyl recommend an underlayment? Most come with the attached padding and specifically say using additional underlayment will void the warranty.

Not what you asked but I'll give my opinion anyway. I personally do not like underlayment or much of it under LVP. I don't like the soft spongy feeling of walking on it, just does not feel right.
