If you’re buying good higher quality food with good variety, $400 is a reasonable budget. Don’t cheap out on your health and sense of well being. i've recently started paying more attention to my finances and after taking a tally on my expenses ive noticed i spend around $400 on groceries, just for myself. this does not include restaurants and is purely money spent at the grocery store. i almost exclusively shop at sobeys as it is the closest grocery store to me, but i am wondering how its prices compare to most other grocery stores? i havent shopped at any others enough to really know what prices are like, but maybe others here have opinions on grocery prices?
i only ever use a hand basket so i dont get too much food, and it can usually cost over $100 when its filled

I find Sobey's expensive. I was pretty dedicated to the Real Canadian Superstore, but the location near me has been raising prices regularly since before Covid. Recently it has obviously become far worse. The peak was when price matching was brought it. Slowly, they reduced which stores you could price match with. Then they stocked the meat section primarily with products you are not able to price match with (e.g., Simply Free, Blue Menu). Now they changed the model where you have to buy multiples of items to get the better price. Most recently, they started adding a lot of limits on how many sale items you can purchase. Pretty tired of it. So, I am moving to No Frills and maybe Fresh Co. I need to see which is better for me. I also shop regularly at Costco and Farm Boy (sale items). I go wherever the sales are. Items on sale at all the local stores can still be good. Sobey's can have some great deals on meat etc.. Where you live can make a big difference too.
