I try to keep it simple. If they're more aware of their issues/the business/the product, I tell them more directly about why they should buy, and I use appeals like discounts, deadlines, and bonus offers to push people over the edge. If they're less aware, I spend more time talking about their problems and where those problems come from, as well as ways to solve those problems. Then I offer the product I'm selling as a potential solution. For ppc ads going out to cold audiences: I keep the copy geared toward the less aware. For copy going to warm audiences, like retargeting campaigns, that's when I start offering people coupon codes. I used to do sophisticated targeting and extensive research on sub-segments of the markets I'm writing to, and so on. I don't anymore because a dummy simple approach simply works better--especially for testing more hooks and enticements at a greater volume. Answer from eolithic_frustum on reddit.com

r/PPC on Reddit: Advertising Awareness Stage
October 27, 2023 -

Hello Redditors!

I'm curious: which awareness stage are you mostly advertising when using Facebook ads?

I see a lot of agencies screaming we got 8x ROAS with x amount of ad spend.

The same thing goes with DTC brands, talking about "we got 6 x ROAS with x amount of ad spend but, every I increase the ad spend, my ROAS drops"

I have noticed that one of the things that keeps small brands stuck at certain revenue is that most of their ads are at the Product-aware or most-aware stage.

That's why I'm starting this post to see which awareness stage you advertise the most.

Looking forward to your answers.

If people are measuring those numbers with ad manager, it is going to be way off. At least for us, maintaining a high ROAS and profitability has meant keeping up with ad creative and finding 3 - 5 winners over time. The more ads doing well , the easier it is to scale an ad account and maintain numbers. We use a mix of GA4, Shopify data and ad manager to report on numbers and understand what is going on. We do a fair bit of prospecting with clients and going after cold audiences that we think would be interested in the product. We still optimizing towards conversions, which come in but we are just making people aware of us who were not before. Or maybe they came across us once 1 or 2 years ago. Outside of that, we do mid and bottom of funnel going after non-site converts, up/cross sell customers. Target people who like IG or maybe people who signed up for the newsletter or early access email list but has never bought. One cool trick is you can advertise a generic ad that sends people to an always on sales section of the site. Since the ad is not holiday or time specific, you can run it when there is lots in the sale section and turn it off when there is not. When the sales section is full again, turn it back on. Maintain social proof and keep riding that wave.

Awareness stage means that you should focus on brand metrics, not sales. But money speaks the loudest, so saying something about ROAS sounds more appealing than "we improved brand recall, brand favorability, and brand loyalty by 10%". The problem of strongly optimized audiences, keywords etc. is that you can get a high ROI on paper, but these are usually the people who already know about your product or product category and are in the mood for buying. This leaves little room for growth.
