Is there a benefit to running awareness and consideration ads before conversion ads?
For music merch you're right that people need to know who you are before they'll buy. Conversion ads to cold audiences don't work when there's zero brand awareness. Full funnel makes more sense for your situation. Run awareness/engagement ads to get people listening to your music and familiar with your brand first. Then retarget those engaged people with conversion ads for merch. The problem with jumping straight to conversion is Facebook's algorithm optimizes for people who buy stuff, but those people still need to want YOUR merch specifically. If nobody knows your music, they're not gonna buy a shirt no matter how good the targeting is. Test running video or engagement ads with your music first, build an audience of people who actually watch or listen, then hit them with merch offers after they've engaged. That warm audience will convert way better than cold. This is pretty outside what our clients deal with though. We're on the email side of marketing, helping businesses fix deliverability when their campaigns land in spam. Facebook Ads strategy isn't really my thing. Higher the funnel, the more quality inventory you'd want so more natural to do a PG / PMP only approach for Awareness. Consideration / Conversion can be more weighted towards open auction but dependent on what inventory / audience you are after, PMPs are still viable as are PGs.
