I purchased lengths of vinyl siding and j-channel from Home Depot. The siding measures 1/2" overall depth and the j-channel has a 5/8" slot, leaving about 1/8" of play. Is this size discrepancy okay? I have a 5/8" siding sample and it fits much nicer in the 5/8" j-channel, so I'm a little concerned. These sizes of siding and j-channel seem to be the only ones that Home Depot offers in this color and it's a popular color (Khaki) so I'm thinking maybe this is the expected combo from their perspective, but I'm not sure.
tldr; is 1/2" siding in a 5/8" j-channel okay?

Hi everyone,
The bottom of my house's siding has a j-channel as opposed to z-flashing or a drip-cap. The j-channel constantly stores water that drips from the siding above, and there is no exit point...
My home inspector suggested that a temporary solution would be to drill small holes at the bottom of the j-channel to allow water to escape.
Should I also add caulking to seal the gap at the top of the j-channel as well? This way, only water that gets behind the siding will escape through the drilled holes.

Thanks for the help!
Hi everyone,
We recently finished our build, and while the process was mostly great, our siding experience was less than desirable. The crew rarely showed when they said they would, and their work wasn’t what I would consider up to par.
Since the install of vertical siding on the front of the house, we’ve had consistent issues with “bubbling” in areas. Initially, it was only a few pieces, and the company sent the crew back up to replace them. The same ones bubbled again, and the company said they would no longer replace them.
Fast forward a month or two, and nearly all the siding is bubbling. From your experience, what is could be causing this, and what recourse do I have? The company has already been paid.
A little background:
The company is a large exterior company in a local city. The installers are one of their subs. The company provided the material and the subs to install. This was not a crew that my builder chose.
