I'm at my whit's end here. I got a new phone and "restored" it from last night's iCloud backup. Imagine my surprise when I'm missing the last month's worth of WhatsApp messages. I don't know why, but the last WhatsApp backup was about a month ago even though iCloud backed up last night.
No problem, just back up on the old phone I have in my other hand, right? Well, unfortunately since I already setup WhatApp on my new phone, it's logged my out on my old phone and the only prompt I get is to validate my number on my old phone and restore from that month old backup. Also, to add insult to injury WhatsApp logged out of my two computers as well (so I have to relink those devices as well).
There's a lot of info in those chats I would really like to not have to ask people about again.
Any ideas on how to get back my old messages from the old phone I have right here?
I'm helping my wife transfer to a new smartphone and the transition is not going smoothly for WhatsApp.
Before switching phones we backed up her WhatsApp account to her Google Drive once we installed WhatsApp in the new phone it prompted us to log in which we did but the conversations are all several days behind. The answer is to use the backup we did to Google Drive but it's not giving us that option. According to instructions we need to uninstall the app and reinstall to be given the prompt for restoring a backup but we don't get that prompt. It simply reopens the app as if nothing happened once the reinstall is done.
How can I clear the WhatsApp cache or restore from the backup from Google Drive so we can recover her most up to date conversations?
Hello,
I switched phones for vacation and when I switched back to my original phone i reinstalled the app and accidentally didnt tick the box that said "keep 10gb worth of whatsapp data" which resuled in me loosing all my media from all of my time on whatsapp.
Now, I have the local backups from the phone I used while I was on vacation and if my thinking is correct the media should be on those backups (htough I might loose a couple of days wirth of text messages but thats fine).
However, when I reinstall whatsapp and install the backup it always used the backup on google drive which is the incorrect one. DO you know how I can force Whataspp to use the local backup instead of the drive one?
I have access to all of the backups from the past 7 days of my vaation phone (those from my real phone were deleted in the big purge, sadly). I have them on my pc, transfer the one I want to my phone, edit the name to msgstore.db.crypt14 but it still only used cloud files.
