Prime member here. Most times my free Amazon returns have the options of both the UPS Store drop-off and my local locker (both free) but occasionally those options do not appear. 4 of the 5 items I am returning gave the option for UPS Store drop-off but the 5th did not. Options for the 5th item are Amazon Store (2 hours away round trip, not an option), UPS drop-off (a big mailbox in a parking lot, $5.99) or UPS pickup ($11.99). Could someone please explain why this occurs? Yes, the local locker might be full but I cannot think of a single reason why UPS store would not be an option.
I worked it out with a 10 minute callback from customer service who agreed to send me a prepaid label but this is the second or third time I had to spend time on the phone to make what should be a free return. Anyone know why this is occurring?
Is it still “free returns” if you have to travel a half hour to return something?
You could argue that this could be acceptable for products that you just change your mind about but we’re talking about defective items or products with vague descriptions and photos from companies with too many consonants and vowels.
In NYC, even a mile can take 15 minutes but it’s even worse than that. Amazon is only showing one Amazon Hub Locker 13 miles away which is about an hour drive each way.
Even the Staples locations available are not the closest ones and at least a 1/2 hour drive one way.
There’s even an Amazon Locker directly in the lobby of my building but this one doesn’t accept returns.
How long can this last before there’s blowback? I’ve already started purchasing from other sources.
