You can definitely do this. I worked at a large CPG that used Visa gift cards in a promotion. Our agency was able to buy stacks and stacks of them with our branding. The problem you will find is more in the costs - I don't know what we paid for them but the ones you get at the grocery store have a $5.99/card activation fee that you pay. If you're willing to incur additional upcharges on each payment, then the gift card route is a viable. Sorry that I do not know the name of the company we used but assuming Google could help? I have been in prepaid, gift cards, and payments for a very, very long time. You generally do not sell gift active/live gift cards as then they have to be treated like cash and kept in the cash drawer or safe. You really need a POSA (point-of-sale activation) tool and a pay on activation process if you want to gain any traction even at the smallest of retailers. Total margins are between 3% and 12% even at the biggest retailers. There is usually a processor involved in the transaction that keeps a few percent as well. You will probably have to offer more margin. 1a. It will cost you less to offer the one year card as you only have to produce 1 card instead of 12. You may be able to cut the margin a bit for the larger ring. Selling merchant keeps 20% for a one month card but only gets 15% for the 12 month card. 1 Again. You should have an agreement that sets the retail ring, margin, and payment terms. In reality you should not really care as long as the selling merchant is paying you the contract price when they sell a card. They can give them away as long as they pay you. I have been trying to figure out a solution for this situation and there really isn't one without spending a big pile of money with minimal return. EDIT: "We are planning on selling them with no buy-back guarantee" that is never going to happen. Sorry but it just won't. More on reddit.com

I am planning a staff appreciation event and we are interested in sending each of them (about 120 people) an e-gift card that can be used at most retailers, so we are thinking Visa/AmEx/MasterCard. Online, I’ve found that I can order the physical cards in bulk, but when I try to purchase an e-gift card, it only allows me to purchase one at a time. That will take forever. Any suggestions?
