Denver Without Car? - Denver Message Board - Tripadvisor
Yep Denver is very easy without a car. Our bus system, bike share program and your feet will get you most places. If you want a car for a day trip to the mountain you can easily rent one from the car rental counters downtown. Typically cost less than at the airport. ... I'd suggest you stay downtown/Lodo and yes get to the mountains for a least a day if not an overnight.

4 days in Denver - Can I do it without a car??
You definitely don't need a car. I'd recommend staying downtown because that way you're within walking distance of Union Station, where most of the train lines go. Easy to get anywhere from there. They even have a coach bus that goes express to Boulder where there's some excellent hiking within walking distance. Check out Alltrails or your favorite trail hike app to see your options. Hello!
I'm possibly coming to your fair city in August with my mom (60+). We will be flying in and won't have a car but aren't afraid of public transportation. We'd love to stay in a central-ish area with things to do close by. We are into good food, outdoors, shopping with emphasis on local handmade/neat/unique goods, museums and I'm into craft beer. We're pretty much open to any adventure, really.
Thanks for any info! Cheers!
Edit: Thanks for all the help! Can't wait to visit :D

Those are all trendy neighborhoods, as is Cherry Creek north. If you were looking for a hotel, those would be my choices. So if you find an AirB&B or VRBO, that would work. If not, will be glad to give an opinion on other locations.
