Wonder why your battery is draining so fast? Useless apps having permission to operate in the background when not in use. Check the list and you'll see. Also, many of them insert 3rd party location tracking software that sells your data to brokers (they earn money on the side for it). Why enable that? Turn it all off, except actually important apps. And you don't need BAR to receive alerts/notifications -- they will still work without BAR.

No there is not. Apple does not want you to force close all apps, because it hurts iOS performance instead of improving it. It takes some getting used to, but once you do it’s crazy how long apps will “survive” in the background

You don’t need to close them all out and it uses more battery when you do so. You should only force close apps if there’s a problem with one.

Apps will always run in the background for a varying amount of time independently of “Background App Refresh”. That option just applies to certain aspects of an app and is a reference to the app for what can be done at any given moment in the background. For example, WhatsApp will not be able to make chat backups if BGR is disabled. However, it’ll still do some other stuff like data management, status checks, incoming data fetching and handling, etc. Things many apps do in the BG regardless, no need to worry about it. The system handles it accordingly. Apps usually only have 10-20 minutes max of BG runtime for critical tasks which aren’t very intensive anyways. Minor tasks such as shutdown during termination will be allowed about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Your battery will run most effectively if you just let the OS control it in the background. You don’t need to worry so much about it and your battery life issues are probably from how you use your phone more than anything else going on in the background.

I’ve seen to not close app windows because it’s counterintuitive with saving battery so I haven’t done that but I have turned off background refresh, despite that I’m seeing background app percentages

If the app isn’t closed, it can still run in the background. Turning off background refresh for an app stops the app refreshing while the app is closed down completely.
