I'm sure others will give a more qualified response with links or references to benchmarks with a plethora of numbers, but hear me out. Today's CPUs from Intel and AMD are so good that if you aren't running benchmarks all day long on two machines sitting next to one another, you'll be more than satisfied with anything you use the computer for. Of course there will be differences from one product to another, but if you're building to a budget it doesn't matter that much which way you end up going. Rest assured the day to day experience you get out of the machines will be more than satisfactory. I say that as someone using an i7 4790k with 16GB DDR3 and a GTX 780 GPU, all from 2013. This machine runs most games (non AAA) from a few years ago at low to medium settings at very playable frame rates at 1080p, which is perfectly fine if you're not doing competitive FPS gaming. I also use it for Adobe Lightroom Classic to manage a catalog of over 10000 images, occasional Photoshop work, and 4k editing (with proxies) using Resolve. I only wish for a better system when using these programs on occasion, otherwise I'm happy to keep it running as it is. Any modern system, even one with an entry level processor will beat the pants off my system. Again, if the user isn't doing heavy competitive gaming or professional photo/video work where deadlines are critical, any CPU from any company will be MORE than up to the task of running everything needed, and running it very well indeed. Intel or AMD for graphic design, photo+ video editing and gaming?
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/intel-core-ultra-200s-content-creation-review/ Budgets not really a problem right now I would not put that statement, and a $350 gpu, together. If budget isn't a concern (within reason), you'd be looking at like a 9950x3d* and a 5070ti, but I'm guessing the budget is more like $1000-1200 instead of $2000+ More on reddit.com

I own the i5 11400 from Intel, and MSI Z590A-Pro. Also 32 GB of RAM, DDR-4 Corsair Vengeance (two 16 GB each). It looks like this CPU uses 65W. Intel ya AMD photo/video editing AUR gaming ke liye?
Mujhe pata hai ki doosre log zyada qualified jawaab denge, links aur benchmarks ke saath, jismein bahut saare numbers honge, lekin meri baat suno. Aajkal Intel aur AMD ke CPUs itne achhe hain ki agar tum din bhar do machines par benchmarks nahi chala rahe ho, jo ek doosre ke bagal mein rakhe hain, toh tum computer ko jis bhi cheez ke liye use karoge, usse poori tarah se santusht rahoge. Of course, ek product se doosre mein differences toh honge, lekin agar tum budget ke hisaab se bana rahe ho, toh zyada farak nahi padta ki tum kis taraf ja rahe ho. Vishwas rakho ki tumhein machines se jo roz ka experience milega, woh kaafi achha hoga. Main yeh baat ek aise aadmi ki tarah keh raha hoon jo i7 4790k, 16GB DDR3 aur GTX 780 GPU, sab 2013 ke use kar raha hai. Yeh machine zyada tar games (non AAA) kuch saal pehle ke low se medium settings par chalaati hai, jismein 1080p par kaafi achhe frame rates aate hain, jo bilkul theek hai agar tum competitive FPS gaming nahi kar rahe ho. Main iska use Adobe Lightroom Classic mein 10000 se zyada images ka catalog manage karne ke liye bhi karta hoon, kabhi-kabaar Photoshop ka kaam karta hoon, aur Resolve use karke 4k editing (proxies ke saath) bhi karta hoon. Mujhe sirf in programs ko use karte samay kabhi-kabaar ek behtar system ki ichha hoti hai, warna main isko aise hi chalaane mein khush hoon. Koi bhi modern system, chahe woh entry level processor wala hi kyun na ho, mere system ko har tarah se hara dega. Phir se, agar user heavy competitive gaming ya professional photo/video work nahi kar raha hai, jahan deadlines critical hain, toh kisi bhi company ka koi bhi CPU, har cheez ko chalaane ke liye, aur woh bhi bahut achhe se, kaafi hai. Which CPU should I buy as a video editor?
Buy the best Intel CPU you can find in your budget. If you don't want to deal with 13th/14th gen and instead want AMD, then 7900X or 7950X would be the logical choices. If your workloads benefits from V-cache, then consider the X3D versions as well. More on reddit.com

People also ask

What does the most work when editing video CPU or GPU?
The CPU works significantly more than the GPU in video editing. From decoding the video to rendering it after all the edits, video editing relies heavily on the CPU. The GPU deals with tasks such as effects processing, color grading, and GPU-accelerated effects.

Is Intel or Ryzen better for video editing?

This can vary based on the tools being used and the CPUs being compared. AMD's newer Zen 5 9000 series CPUs do have a small lead currently, backed by their higher IPC count, which makes it a superior option to most of their peers.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Intel or AMD for photo/video editing AND gaming?
December 19, 2022 -

I apologize if this is a basic question, I'm relatively new to building.

I am currently choosing parts for a PC I'm building for my sister. She plans to use it equally for photo editing, light video editing, and gaming. She also wants to be able to multitask well (such as gaming while having Spotify, Discord, and Chrome running.) My main concern is whether I should choose Intel or AMD for the CPU, and which generation.

From what I have seen, Intel CPUs tend to perform better in Adobe applications (which is what she uses for editing). Most of their CPUs also have Quicksync and integrated graphics, which helps with video editing. However, I have seen AMD CPUs at the same price point perform better for gaming and multitasking.

If anyone has advice or recommendations regarding this, I would really appreciate it. :)

EDIT: Thank you all for your advice! I might not reply to all of you, but I appreciate your messages nonetheless.

Pick which particular video/photo software you care about, see if Puget has articles testing them recently, https://www.pugetsystems.com/all_articles.php For a lot of photo and video stuff intel 13th gen is the best value. Your GPU will have quick sync equivalent features too, but will depend on which particular software you're using for how well supported it is.

August 25, 2025 -

Im looking at building my own PC for personal and work. Gaming is honestly random and depends, sometimes Fornite and Val or sometimes story based games like RE.

I can get the 9060 xt 16gb brand new for way under msrp so thats the GPU im looking at getting. But what about the cpu?

I like the amd gpu because I've always used them, even in laptops + my monitors use amd free sync. I was thinking of the Ultra 7 265KF because it has 20 cores, but I've also heard that amd would work better as long as it's over 8 cores?

Budgets not really a problem right now, I'll change things based off the cpu I get because that and the mobo are left to decide on.
