The heater should never activate if the motor isn't running. Could you hear the motor kick on when you started it? If not then something must be wired incorrectly or shorted or something. There is a centrifugal switch in the motor that is meant to cut power to the heating element when the motor isn't running. More on reddit.com

February 10, 2023 - If electric, it's either the high limit safety, a thermal fuse or the element (less likely). Comparatively easy fix for a handy person. Getting the cabinet apart without breaking anything is the hardest part, imo. ... most likely thermal fuse. Google the model number of your dryer and youtube videos will show up.

So I just replaced the belt, idler pulley and drum wheels on a standard electric dryer ( model WED4815EW1 ). Finished and put it all together and ran to test, got heat but no air or spin. Got out the tester and went through looking for continuity.
Everything was getting power until I checked the thermal fuse in the back. Am confused because I thought the blown fuse would keep the heater from running not the motor but I guess that’s only an assumption on my part.
Not sure why it would have blown, I only ran it for 30 seconds before checking and seeing it was getting hot but no spin, tested the motor and it seems to be fine. It was completely covered in lint when I opened so I vacuumed it out, thought the excess might have caused something after firing it up again
Just need help trouble shooting what went wrong and what if anything I should check. Already ordered a 3 pack of fuses on Amazon but I’m not sure what blew it in the first place, or if it’s related. Any help would be great. Have 2 days until the fuses get here.

The heater should never activate if the motor isn't running. Could you hear the motor kick on when you started it? If not then something must be wired incorrectly or shorted or something. Unplug dryer and take the 2 wires off heater. Test each element lead to chassis/ground for continuity. My guess is element filament has sagged or broken and is touching the housing. It likely has tripped half the breaker so theres 120V at your outlet not 240V Element should not heat with motor not running cause the centrifugal switch wont kick in to complete heater circuit.
