I was told by an experienced GC that the only grout color one should really consider in the shower area is white. He said that it's possible to get white grout back to white after cleaning and that off-white, or neutral-gray grouts begin to get darker at around chest height after some years of service creating a two-toned effect above and below the water spray line.
I had never heard this. Is it correct? Is he trying to save a couple bucks on the cost of his grout? Any experienced tilers vouch for this? If not, what is the best off-white, gray grout spec. out there? My tiles are blue-grey-green irregular subway tiles, in stacked soldier layout and I wanted to deemphasize the grout lines instead of high contrast white.

As the title says - will I regret white penny tile with white grout in my bathroom? I love the look and that’s our current plan but I’m curious if anyone has regretted it in terms of cleaning?
In the world of tile, is this advised against? I’m laying tile now, so the choice must be made soon. I like the look but would love to hear the drawbacks and reasoning behind why it may be a bad look.
