Recently attended a Franchise Expo and got interested in this vending machine franchise called Java Brew Collection. Anybody familiar with the franchise or vending business in general. The initial setup cost is low but want to make sure we are not overlooking something.

Too many red flags. Listened to these guys at the Tampa franchise expo in September 2024. Limited financial information and no prospectus at the expo. They require you come to a meeting that same week for more information. Spent 2 hours in the meeting listening to success stories from PowerPoint slides. One or two relevant slides with some financials. After the meeting, they give you an application packet which is to be brought to an interview two days later with a non refundable deposit. Lack of information, and only 2 days to perform due diligence before having to put down a deposit is a major red flag. My ultimate conclusion was that this entire setup is designed to get people to impulsively purchase coffee machines based on success stories and hopes for a side hustle. It gave me cutco knife vibes. Different structure but a genius way to sell. If you don’t know about cutco knives - cutco knives “hires” just about anyone to sell knives as employees on commission and then those new employees sell the knives to friends and family to “get their feet wet and learn how to sell before going door to door”. Ultimately most employees just sell to their friends and family before they give up and quit. I believe this company makes its money from selling you the coffee machines, not from this elaborate passive income model they are proposing to sell you on. They’re simply selling you a coffee machine but making it appear as if there is a huge demand for this opportunity and so you have to act fast. The guys doing the talking are just coffee machine sales people and they get paid commissions when you buy machines. The guys weren’t pushy but the total lack of information, and the rush for a deposit without any reasonable due diligence time is where I draw the line. Any good franchise or business partner would want their franchisees and/ or partners to be comfortable in the deal and take as much time as they need. Not, hey we can’t tell you anymore information at this expo you have to come to an in person meeting. Then at the meeting they’re asking for you to bring a deposit to an interview 2 days later. The deposit is “refundable” if your application doesn’t get approved. At the expo they said they’re looking for 3 new people for my area. At the meeting they told me 5-8. I’m guessing everyone gets “approved” to “purchase” coffee machines from them.

Looks like a MLM scheme. Let me guess you have to buy a certain # of machines and then have the right to place in your geographic area. The more you buy the larger your area. You also have to buy the proprietary pods from them as well. Coffee is a commodity these days and Nespresso / Keurig make whatever these guys are selling obsolete.
