It's a quality product made from natural fibers, with non-slave labor, and it lasts for a generation or more with proper care. If you want to be warm, there's a lot of options. If you want the particular attributes I listed in the first line, there aren't many. Hence the excitement when someone finds one at a thrift store for pennies on the dollar. Pendleton Blankets - Pendleton Forum - Tripadvisor
Years ago i bought some blanket "panels" to re upholstery my car drivers and passenger seats. They were not that expensive back then, but they were "panels" and that is where i made my purchase. it wasnt like regular store, but a warehouse store. If you look at the street view, its shows a red wood framed building next to it and they also had opened and it was more like a smaller Pendleton Store.

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Help me understand pendleton blankets better
October 6, 2024 -

I'm going to be living in a box truck converted into an rv this winter, I already am living in it but I'll be living in it this winter too.

I keep reading how great wool blankets are for winter, and how great pendleton of all wool blankets are. I'm looking into pendleton blankets and there's a lot of different types. I'm seeing beaver state, national park, costco etc. I don't know what to look out for.

surely a pendleton labeled as throw blanket will be thinner then that I'm looking for right? it should get as low as 30f this winter. I have a blanket but it's not 100% wool, I don't think it's wool at all so I'll need a 100% wool to throw on top of it to trap my body heat in right?

what exactly should I look for when shopping for a pendleton blanket with the intentions of using it for a winter blanket?

I’ve been trying to compare them using what I can find on the internet to the Pendleton’s. They look to be comparable to the Pendleton’s. Both the Pendleton’s and the LL Bean are less expensive than the Hudson Bay’s I’ve seen, but it’s hard to say how they compare in quality. You might want to check what LL Bean has as an option to the Pendleton and other blankets you can get locally. I love my wool blankets and most are family hand made hand me downs. Good luck on your search! I think you already have some good options locally.

June 6, 2017 - They are dry clean only, so keep that in mind. A good alternative for a little bit more money would be a Hudson’s Bay Point blanket, and for a little bit less money is the Faribault Woolen Mills blankets (I have one of these blankets, and they’re also machine washable.) Faribault makes the wool blankets issued to the military going back to WWI, so they’re warm and durable. The Pendleton’s or HBP blankets will be a little thicker and slightly warmer.

The Pendleton Problem - Dwell
September 16, 2020 - Pendleton blankets with Native American–inspired designs · And for many, that’s part of the problem with Pendleton Woolen Mills. It’s a company that’s profited from Indigenous designs for more than 100 years, though for six generations, it’s been owned by the Bishop family, who are not Native American. Today, some activists and designers are calling out companies like Pendleton, along with Restoration Hardware and Urban Outfitters, for their habit of taking designs and motifs from Indigenous cultures around the world and copying them for profit.

February 3, 2011 - Now Pendleton has announced their newest collaboration, The Portland Collection, which fashion blogs are proclaiming will be the big thing for 2011. ... So what’s the problem? I openly admit that a lot of these designs are adorable, and I would fully sport them (that bag! I love!), if I had a spare $1000 or so. I can’t cry straight up cultural appropriation, because…well, it’s complicated. Pendelton has been supplying Natives with blankets and robes with Indian designs since the late 1800’s, which the “history” section of their website outlines:
